Position Summary
Under general direction, the Clinical Education Specialist (CES) oversees clinical education and training services for the assigned service area. This role serves as a subject matter expert and liaison representing AMR to internal stakeholders, local committees, medical professionals, and training institutions. The CES is responsible for the development, implementation, delivery, and evaluation of initial and ongoing clinical education programs, quality improvement initiatives, and field training support.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Education & Training
- Develop, implement, and manage orientation, continuing education, and remedial training programs for field personnel.
- Schedule, conduct, and evaluate classroom, hands-on, and field-based training sessions, including administering examinations and assessments.
- Design educational materials, including lesson plans, course objectives, examinations, and manuals aligned with regulatory and organizational standards.
- Coordinate and conduct evaluations for paramedic school candidates and tailor continuing education programs to meet operational and field-training needs.
Recruitment & Community Engagement
- Support recruitment efforts by participating in EMS programs, career days, and educational outreach events.
- Represent AMR with local EMS education programs to ensure alignment with internship and preceptor requirements.
Clinical Oversight & Quality Improvement
- Serve as a clinical resource to field personnel, leadership, and management.
- Conduct and coordinate clinical quality assurance and quality improvement initiatives, including chart reviews and data management.
- Respond to and investigate clinical complaints and compliments, document findings, and present summaries or recommendations to leadership.
- Identify, develop, and implement proactive and retrospective QI initiatives, including trend analysis at both individual and group levels.
Field Training & Program Management
- Lead and monitor the Field Training Officer (FTO) program, including FTO selection, guideline development, and coordination of the FTO committee.
- Oversee third-rider scheduling and clinical clearance requirements related to contracts and service agreements.
- Assist with the development, revision, and implementation of medical policies and procedures.
Compliance, Documentation & Administration
- Track and maintain employee certifications, licensure, and vaccination records in designated systems.
- Review patient care reports for accuracy and compliance; assist with utilization management plans.
- Participate in equipment evaluation and selection processes related to clinical performance.
- Review and evaluate Medicare, Medicaid, and other billing-related clinical metrics; assist with appeals and managed care utilization reviews.
- Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures, including information systems security, required training, and reporting obligations.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or GED (required)
Licensure & Certifications
- Current California State Paramedic Certification or higher (required)
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record (required)
- Preferred certifications:
- BLS Provider or Instructor
- ACLS Instructor
- PALS Instructor
Experience
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience providing advanced life support (ALS) care as a Paramedic in a pre-hospital setting.
- Applicable state instructor or coordinator certification. (preferred).
- Demonstrated experience instructing, evaluating, coaching, and assessing all aspects of pre-hospital patient care.
- Experience with Microsoft Software such as Excel, Word, Teams, Adobe, and Smartsheet. (preferred)
