Location:Corewell Health East - Royal Oak (primary), Dearborn, Troy, Grosse Pointe
Schedule:Full-time, days; 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM;rotating shifts Monday-Friday; no holidays

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Corewell Health East is seeking an experienced and motivated Advanced Practice Provider to join our Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery Service. This role functions primarily as a first assist in the operating room, including participation in complex microsurgical free flap reconstructions, while also providing independent postoperative clinic care for plastic surgery patients.

The APP will play an integral role across the continuum of surgical care, including preoperative assessment, intraoperative first assist, and outpatient postoperative followup, working closely with attending surgeons, fellows, residents, and an established nursing team. This position requires a strong foundation in surgical anatomy, the ability to learn and apply microsurgical techniques, and the skills to effectively educate and guide patients through complex, staged reconstructive procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Serve as first assist in the operating room, including complex reconstructive cases and microsurgical free flap procedures.
  • Participate in preoperative patient assessment, positioning, and surgical site preparation, including draping.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of surgical anatomy and the ability to learn and apply microsurgical techniques.
  • Assist with intraoperative clinical decision-making in collaboration with the attending surgeon.
  • Enter and manage postoperative surgical orders in accordance with established protocols.
  • Provide independent postoperative clinic care for reconstructive plastic surgery patients, including breast reconstruction and staged procedures.
  • Perform clinic-based procedural skills including tissue expander management, wound vac management, wound assessment, and drain management.
  • Monitor postoperative recovery, identify complications, and coordinate follow-up care.
  • Effectively communicate complex, staged reconstructive plans to patients and caregivers throughout the continuum of care.
  • Collaborate with an established RN team to manage the patient inbasket and provide clinical guidance to patients contacting the clinic.
  • Order and interpret appropriate laboratory and imaging studies related to postoperative and outpatient care.
  • Prescribe and monitor pharmacologic therapies in alignment with clinical guidelines.
  • Complete documentation and billing accurately and in compliance with organizational standards.

    STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS

    Education / Training:

    • Master's Degree in Nursing OR a Masters in Physician Assistant studies

    Work Experience:

    • One (1) year of demonstrated experience as a PA/NP providing surgical patient care, including first assist experience in the operating room is preferred.
    • Foundational knowledge of surgical anatomy with the ability to apply anatomy in complex operative and postoperative settings.
    • Demonstrated ability to learn new procedural and clinical skills in a highacuity surgical environment.
    • Ability to work with minimal supervision as part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary surgical team.

    Certification, Licensure, Registration:

    • State of Michigan Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant license required
    • If NP, RNFA is required.
    • AHA/ARC BLS certification required
