The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Job Overview:

Performs basic therapeutic procedures as outlined under the scope of respiratory patient care services within the section of the policy and procedure manual. Transcribes and implements physician orders. Uses basic and advanced assessment skills and patient information to maintain awareness of and coordinate patient care needs.

Qualification

  • Graduate of an NBRC approved school for respiratory care.
  • Successful completion of all Orientation Programs.
  • Credentialed Respiratory Therapist by NBRC,
  • Licensed by New Jersey State Board of Respiratory Care
  • Successful completion of all Orientation Programs

Scheduling Requirements (non-exempt positions):

  • Full-Time
  • Night
  • Works every weekend and is allowed 2 weekends off for vacation
  • Must be compliant with time /attendance policy otherwise they forfeit the Baylor schedule program

Essential Functions:

  • Accepts telephone and verbal orders from physicians with appropriate and required chart documentation completed.
  • Assists with transportation of critically ill patients requiring cardiopulmonary support.
  • Communicates in shift report all clinical and technical information pertinent to the care of all patients receiving respiratory therapy in assigned unit.
  • Communicates with physicians, nurses, therapists and other clinical personnel to achieve optimal and coordinated patient care.
  • Completes all shift duties before leaving shift (i.e. returns equipment to central, charting, etc.)
  • Maintains availability in the area for which direct responsibility is assigned unless specifically relieved by staff supervisors.
  • Maintains ventilatory parameters and monitors basic cardiopulmonary status of patients receiving intensive respiratory care.
  • Monitors and records patient data, transcribes physician orders, assesses patient's medical response to therapy and completes documentation on approved departmental forms.
  • Obtains and analyzes blood gas samples, and with training, sampling from indwelling catheters.
  • Performs any task within the scope of department at the request of Staff Supervisor.
  • Performs evaluation and assessment of patients
  • Performs minor repairs on malfunctioning respiratory equipment; reports equipment not able to be repaired to Supervisor or Manager of Respiratory Central.
  • Performs quality control procedures and calibrates ABG equipment to ensure valid results; recognizes invalid data.
  • Performs respiratory care procedures, including ventilator management, ABG sampling/analysis, aerosol therapy, IPPB, USN, CPT, IS, pulse oximetry, etc.
  • Performs routine infection control procedures on respiratory therapy equipment as required by department policy.
  • Provides basic aspects of airway management, including intubations, extubation, nasopharyngeal and oral airways.
  • Recognizes possible side effects of all modes of therapy and drugs administered; notifies appropriate personnel of side effects.
  • Responds to specifically designated or paged areas during disasters and codes.
  • When in charge, responsibly directs the workforce. Transfers, assigns staff accordingly.
