Job Summary

The Laser Scientist will be a part of a new, cohesive group involved in the development of advanced laser modules and systems. A successful candidate will participate in all aspects of laser product development process: from conceptual design and lab prototyping, including optical alignment, optical and electrical assembly and testing, to gathering and presentation of experimental test data, to development of robust, packaged laser modules and systems for new product lines.

Duties:



  • Creative design, development, and testing of laser prototypes, modules and systems including optical layouts, components and equipment.
  • Development of measurement methodology, algorithms and protocols, measurement and characterization tests
  • Verification of performance of optical components, setups, systems, and equipment,
  • Operation and maintenance of a variety of optical, test and analytical instruments
  • Provide reports and training to internal personnel


  • PhD in Science or Engineering, preferably with Major in Optics or Lasers or MS with 5+ years of directly-related industry experience at the engineer/ scientist level
  • Strong experimental skills related to the development of solid-state, diode-/fiber-laser-pumped lasers. (Experience with ultrashort-pulse generation in solid-state/ fiber lasers is a plus).
  • Experience with optical components and optical metrology, optical and electronic test equipment
  • Working knowledge of data acquisition software, such as LabView
  • Knowledge of computational tools, such as Mathematica, MathCAD or MatLab
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
