Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Technical Facility Trainer - Protective Force to join our Safeguards and Security team. In this hands-on role, you will serve as a weapons and tactics instructor for our Protective Force, directly shaping the readiness and qualifications of security personnel who safeguard one of the nation's premier energy research laboratories.

You'll develop and implement technical facility-specific training and qualification programs - with a primary focus on firearms, tactical operations, and use of force - while also supporting broader training needs in job skills, first aid, health and safety, and facility operations. This work directly supports the laboratory's legacy of innovation by ensuring our Protective Force is equipped to meet cutting-edge security challenges.

Our team works a sliding 12-hour shift schedule located out of our various facilities.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement technical facility-specific training and qualification programs. Subject matters may include job skills training, first aid, health & safety training, safeguards & security (firearms, tactical, use of force), and facility/protective force operations support.
  • Identify training needs and analyze training requirements.
  • Develop learning objectives, lesson plans, training support materials, evaluation standards, and written/oral examinations to ensure staff are qualified to perform their duties in accordance with regulations and procedures. Design training to obtain high levels of proficiency and retention.
  • Review technical procedures, reports, proposals, and other appropriate documents to determine their impact on the training programs and to make recommendations for implementation or revision based on needs or problems observed during operational or training evolutions. Implement approved recommendations.
  • Develop, schedule, administer, grade, and evaluate written, oral tests, and performance examinations (which may include those related to simulators).
  • Perform and evaluate classroom, on-the-job, and simulator training. Ensure assigned training programs follow the requirements of program documents, company procedures, training implementation matrices, and training program plans.
  • Participate in support activities as assigned, including serving on assessment teams, investigation teams, benchmarking teams, and collaborate with laboratory training organizations.
  • May coordinate activities to accomplish goals with other trainers.
  • Evaluate training programs to ascertain that requirements are met and that the programs are vigorous and are accomplishing the goals established for delivery of training that prepares employees to perform their jobs. Conduct self-assessment activities required by company procedures, using results to improve the training programs. Track deficiencies and provide timely completion of actions that correct/mitigate deficiencies. Document and implement required corrective measures if needed.
  • Mentor junior staff as needed.

Required:

  • Level 3: Bachelor's degree in related field and 5 years of relevant experience OR Master's degree in related field and 2 years of relevant experience OR 11 years of relevant experience required.
  • Level 4: Bachelor's degree in related field and 9 years of relevant experience OR Master's degree in related field and 6 years of relevant experience OR 15 years of relevant experience required.
  • National Training Center (NTC) TRF-100 and/or TRF-200 Certification required
  • Additional NTC certification(s) helpful, including: Firearms Instructor, Advanced Firearms Instructor, Breaching, Precision Rifle Forward Observer, Intermediate Force
  • Must hold an active DOE "Q" clearance.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, and work in an office and field/laboratory environment. The job requires hand/finger dexterity to keyboard or type, handle materials, manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms. The job requires operation of job-related equipment and driving a vehicle. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with the public is required. Job Information:

  • The pay range for this position is: Level 3 ($79,344 - $162,732) / Level 4 ($95,256 - $195,288). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
  • Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.
  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
