As a member of a logistics services team, operates a cargo/box truck daily. Performs routine manual tasks in receiving, warehousing, and delivering of supplies, equipment, and surplus items. Participates in library redistribution services to include sorting, recycling, and delivery of library books. Assists in warehouse operations i.e., unloading/loading supplies, issuing and receiving supplies, and performing physical inventory. Assistance with warehouse operations may take precedence over driving depending on workflow. Provides excellent customer service when dealing with inside/outside agencies. Performs related work as required.

Illustrative Duties

Participates and/or supervises the off/on loading of supplies and equipment for delivery and storage; Operates a truck in making deliveries of supplies and equipment to designated locations; Moves supplies and equipment manually or by using mechanized and non-mechanized materials handling equipment, i.e., forklifts, motorized pallet jacks, carts and dollies; Performs operator preventive maintenance and servicing of assigned vehicle and equipment and reports unsafe operating conditions; Assists in unpacking and storing bin and bulk storage items; Packs and/or marks stock items for shipment; Stores, stows, and organizes items in storage areas; Performs physical inventory, cycle counts and spot checks; Reports inventory discrepancies; Assists with shipping and receiving; Plans efficient routes for deliveries; Communicates with dispatcher to ensure efficient delivery; Performs basic data entry for record keeping and reporting functions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to high school graduation or a GED issued by a state department of education, plus six months of experience equivalent to Material Management Assistant.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
- Possession of a valid motor vehicle driver's license.
- May be required to provide copies of driving record periodically for verification of driving status.
- Must be able to obtain Forklift Safety Training Certificate within six months of hire date.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a driving records check, and a Pre-Employment physical to the satisfaction of the employer.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Virginia State Motor Vehicle Code regulating truck operations.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to read a map.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with central receiving and distribution programs.
- Experience loading and unloading a truck.
- Experience driving a 20-24 foot cargo truck.
- Experience using material handling equipment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to lift and carry heavy objects over an extended period of time and be able to lift 50 pounds or more in a safe and effective manner with assistance. Ability to push/pull rolling carts without assistance that require up to 50 pounds of force. Ability to push/pull rolling carts that require more than 50 pounds of force in a safe efficient manner with assistance Must be physically fit to perform manual labor in various environments. This requires the ability to endure variable and extreme weather conditions such as hot, cold, rain, snow etc. Requires the ability to stand, stoop, reach, walk, sit, kneel, lift, push, pull, as well as work in strenuous activity for long periods of time to manipulate materials with manual dexterity. Must be able to physically navigate a hand truck or other material handling equipment safely, and effectively within the confinements of office space, elevators, staircases, etc. Ability to properly wear required PPE for the entire shift (Safety shoes), and properly utilize PPE when necessary for certain tasks (back support, gloves, safety glasses, etc.) All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
