Regulatory product compliance is a critical business function and a rapidly expanding sector. To support Tesla's mission of accelerating the world's transition to sustainable energy, the Compliance team is focused on expanding global market access and use of Tesla's Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). Tesla is leveraging its world-class expertise in power electronics, vertical integration, firmware, and large-scale deployment to deliver reliable, scalable BESS products at residential, industrial, and utility levels. To support the mission, Tesla Energy compliance team is looking for an amazing software engineer who is passionate about system integration and validation to ensure seamless hardware and firmware performance across our BESS products. Ideal candidates would share our value of fast iteration, deep collaboration, and hands-on innovation as they help us expand sustainable energy.
What You'll Do
- Create, refine, and optimize automation frameworks, tools, and processes to comprehensively verify system integration, interoperability, and compliance with standards (e.g., UL, IEC, IEEE, or industry-specific regulations)
- Collaborate with Compliance engineers to meet new testing, analysis, and tooling needs
- Design, execute, and document validation tests to ensure hardware and firmware systems meet functional, performance, and reliability requirements as per the product safety and performance standards
- Analyze test failures, collaborate with design and development teams to troubleshoot issues, and recommend fixes or improvements
- Work with engineers from design, manufacturing, and quality teams to iterate on system designs and support product launches and partner with external regulatory agencies such Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories (NRTLs) to align test planning, program timelines & project status, and proactively seek to resolve issues
- Aid in "End of Line" manufacturing compliance tester design and support
- Focus on optimization of regression testing workflow and processes for compliance validation prior to, and after, compliance type testing
- Drive continuous improvement by automating testing execution and reporting
What You'll Bring
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience; 3+ years of experience in software, validation, or testing roles
- Full stack knowledge of software programming (e.g., C/C++, Python, Rust, Typescript)
- Experience with integration testing and controlling simulation and measurement devices
- Analytical thinking, problem-solving, attention to detail, and excellent communication for documenting findings and presenting to stakeholders
- Balancing thorough testing with tight deadlines; handling complex systems where failures can stem from subtle interactions
- Understanding of power system, power quality, and measurement techniques such as digital and analog logging equipment, sampling rate and measurement accuracy

Expected Compensation
$120,000 - $252,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
