SPVR. Rutgers Law School (
RLS) seeks an experienced and strategically-minded candidate with a record of setting and achieving student success goals to lead our Bar Studies and Academic Success Departments, with oversight of staff members in Newark and Camden. The successful candidate must be creative and organized and should possess excellent teaching, analytic, quantitative, and collaborative skills. The Assistant/Associate Dean must possess a commitment to advancing student success from matriculation through bar admission.
The Assistant/Associate Dean of Bar Studies and Academic Success will report directly to the Dean and work closely with the faculty and administration.
This position is responsible for and not limited to the following:
- Implement, and manage programming to improve and maintain bar passage rates at RLS so that they are at or above those of peer institutions.
- Develop, teach, and supervise courses focused on bar passage. The Associate Dean, in conjunction with the academic success faculty, will also review and coordinate academic success programming at RLS.
- The Assistant/Associate Dean will use student data and resources from internal and external partners.
- The Assistant/Associate Dean will be responsible for bar data tracking, reporting, and analysis, and champion data-driven decisions that meet bar passage and student success goals.
- Manage contractual relationships with vendors related to bar studies.
- Develop and teach courses focused on bar passage.

Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Qualifications
| Minimum Education and Experience |
- J.D. from an ABA-approved law school with strong academic credentials. Current or prior admission to the bar of at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
- A minimum of 4 years of law-related experience, post law school graduation.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in law school academic support or bar exam advising.

- At least eight years of experience in increasing responsibility in a leadership/managerial role. Exemplary professional, administrative, analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills. Excellent oral and written proficiency as well as strong organizational abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse population of students, faculty, staff, and administrators.
- Ability to foster a cooperative work environment and to manage others.
- Demonstrated ability to think creatively and critically about techniques to improve law students' academic development and to design, implement, and arrange innovative programs to promote that development.
- Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information, exhibit good judgment, and provide customer service in working with students, faculty, and staff.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with data, empirical analysis, and software applications. Accuracy and meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to apply creative problem-solving skills to develop solutions within established policies, guidelines, accreditation standards, and applicable law.
- Significant knowledge of the law school curriculum and best practices for law teaching.
- An understanding of the dynamics of diversity and accessibility, including for first-generation college graduates or law school attendees, in higher education, and a demonstrated ability to incorporate this understanding into their work.

- At least 5 years of prior law school teaching experience, preferably related to bar preparation or academic support.
- Prior experience directing a law school bar preparation or academic support program.
- Knowledge of advising and counseling techniques within a legal or higher education setting.

- The Associate Dean will be expected to travel to and serve students on both campuses in an equitable manner.
