Position Summary Information






Primary Purpose
The Business Analyst (Temporary Casual) is a limited-term entry-level analyst position in the Advancement Services office. The analyst is responsible for supporting the development of reporting and analytical tools that provide relevant and timely data to identify trends and metrics. This includes collecting and receiving data from disparate sources, maintaining, and managing data in the development information system, auditing the integrity of that data to ensure completeness and accuracy based on downstream data systems, and researching discrepancies. This position will provide support, through the strategic identification of fundraising opportunities, utilizing data analytics under the direction of the Executive Director of Advancement Services.
*This is an in-person position on the Stockton campus.
Essential Functions

  • Develops and produces reports and analysis comparing historical and operational measurements for planning, analytics, and forecasting to support Division leaders and fundraisers with data-driven decision making.
  • Works with Development and Alumni Relations Division staff, and other functional areas to maintain data extracts, data access, reports, and delivers data from operational data stores and transaction processing systems.
  • Validates information in data extracts and develops reports to identify and resolve errors.
  • Creates internal reports related to constituent demographics, engagement, systems performance, campaign adoption, efficiencies, and effectiveness of various division initiatives.
  • Manipulates data from primary or secondary data sources to produce reports and data sets.
  • Reports on the strategic and operational performances of business units.
  • Applies understanding of divisional business operations and information requirements to evaluate, test new or enhanced services and information systems/tools with partners in IT and the Division.
  • Reviews information carefully and accurately using University business procedures, systems procedures, historical data trends, benchmarks, past reports, and IRS/CASE standards as guidelines.
  • Effectively communicates through written reports and data visualizations tailored to the target audience.
  • Responds to annual reporting such as Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) - Voluntary Support of Education (VSE), External Benchmarking, U.S News and World Report, and others as needed.
  • Responds to internal requests for information using techniques ranging from standard data aggregation to more complex data mining.
  • Performs related miscellaneous duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a social science, business, or a research-related field.
  • One (1) year of professional experience working with data analysis.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One (1) year of experience working in an Advancement Services/Fundraising office or with data reporting in a higher education environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to think critically and analytically.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience using data visualization tools that may include but not limited to Power BI, Python, R, Tableau, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Experience with SQL or similar query/programming language.
  • Technical proficiency with data testing and data management.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Encompass traits of good judgment, confidentiality, and discretion in communicating with colleagues and constituents.
  • Positive attitude, proven ability to work successfully with diverse populations and demonstrated commitment to promote and enhance diversity and inclusion.
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.

Work Environment/Work Week/Travel:
Work performed during standard business hours.
Hiring Range $26.63 - $35.29 per hour; We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
