THE POSITION

As a Seasonal Forest Maintenance Worker for the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, you will join a team that keeps Tuscarora State Forest in great condition. This role gives you a chance to work outdoors and support forest visitors every day. You will help protect natural spaces through hands-on maintenance and repair work. This is a rewarding way to build skills and make a difference caring for Pennsylvania lands.


DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will support the upkeep and improvement of Tuscarora State Forest through hands-on maintenance and repair tasks. As a Seasonal Forest Maintenance Worker, you will perform the following duties:

  • Building Repairs: Make repairs to forest buildings and facilities using tools from several building trades
  • Equipment Operation: Operate, clean, and maintain vehicles and equipment used throughout the forest
  • Ground Maintenance: Mow, trim, clear debris, prepare sites, plant and maintain trees and shrubs, and complete other outdoor maintenance tasks
  • Construction Support: Build simple concrete forms, mix and place cement, and construct stone or block walls
  • Visitor Assistance: Offer helpful information to forest visitors and maintain a friendly presence
  • Recordkeeping: Complete daily reports, mileage sheets, fuel logs, and other required records

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Seasonal, full-time employment with not health care benefits. There is not an option to buy into health care benefits. The season runs from approximately March 2026 until November 2026 at which time the employee will be placed on leave without pay. The employee will automatically be returned to employment in March 2027.
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Wednesday, 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Thursday, with a 30-minute lunch, Off Friday
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience in laboring work including the use of tools and equipment used in maintenance or construction; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Conditions of Employment:

  • This position requires possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent.
