Position Title: Laboratory Technician

Work Location: Indianapolis, IN, USA, 46077

Assignment Duration: 12 Months

Work Schedule: 8:00am-5:00pm

Work Arrangement: Onsite

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of scientists and technicians, the contractor will support the Microbial Repository. The contractor is expected to work closely with Microbial Repository staff, completing assigned tasks to maintain effective operations.

Background & Context:

This is a backfill position for a long-time temp supporting the Microbial Repository at our organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Be the customer facing contact for strain requisitions and pickups. Interact with customer to ensure needs are met. Deliver strain requests when necessary.
  • Perform routine and non-routine tasks, including aseptic handling, streak plating, cleaning and organizing lab areas, manual liquid transfers, operating automated liquid handlers, and storing and retrieving samples from freezers and shakers.
  • Handle sample management and freezer cleanouts, including management in the LIMS system.
  • Order laboratory supplies as needed to support Microbial Repository operations.
  • When workload allows, provide support to other laboratories, gaining cross-functional experience.
  • Work closely with Microbial Repository staff, scientists, and technicians.
  • Work to understand customer needs and identify workflow improvements that can better meet customer needs.
  • Operate independently to meet customer needs, run MALDI Biotyper identification of contaminants, build IR Biotyper database.


Qualifications & Experience:

  • Experience with biorepositories and LIMS systems.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively and follow standard operating procedures.
  • Good communication and time management skills are essential.
  • Prior experience in microbiology, biotechnology, biology, or a related field is required.
  • Experience using aseptic technique is required.
  • Experience with laboratory automation is a plus.
  • We'd like this role to have a little bit more experience (a few years) with biorepository or LIMS.
