Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Nurse Director (Clinical Research) within the Office of Human Research Services at the Rutgers Cancer Institute.
The Nurse Director (Clinical Research) primarily aims to ensure the provision of safe, compassionate, and effective care while advancing the research mission of Rutgers Cancer Institute. This role emphasizes facilitating high-quality research nursing care for both adult and pediatric research participants, fostering the professional growth of research nursing staff, and guaranteeing adherence to regulatory standards.
The Nurse Director (Clinical Research) supervises clinical research nursing operations across the RWJBarnabas Health system, ensuring compliance with Good Clinical Practice (
GCP) guidelines, managing the nursing research team, and promoting participant enrollment in clinical trials. Ultimately, this position seeks to merge participant-centered care with innovative research to improve cancer outcomes and support Rutgers Cancer Institute's vision of becoming a leader in scientific discovery and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Responsible for managing daily nursing operations to ensure efficient and high-quality participant care and research activities through problem-solving, critical thinking, and inductive and deductive reasoning. Keeps executive management updated on trends and changes.
- Responsible for clinical research management, ensuring compliance with relevant institutional, state, and federal regulatory agencies.
- Monitors the quality of research nursing and participant care, and develops processes to enhance participant enrollment in clinical trials. Responsible for overseeing the administration of all clinical research, managing participant care delivery systems, and ensuring the quality of care for all subjects enrolled in clinical trials.
- Recruits, hires, supervises, and evaluates clinical research nursing staff to ensure productivity and compliance with established standards.
- Monitors and assures the training, development, and competency of all research nursing staff.
- Ensures safe, competent, efficient participant care workflows and resource management.
- Able to establish collaborative relationships and utilize expert communication strategies.
- Responsible for quality assurance and performance improvement of research nursing.

Qualifications
| Minimum Education and Experience |
- Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing with a license to practice as a registered nurse
- Master's or Doctoral degree is required.
- A minimum of five (5) years in oncology nursing experience, with three (3) years in a supervisory role, preferably in an ambulatory care setting.
- Three (3) years of relevant professional experience in reviewing and evaluating budgets, organization, administrative practices, and computer applications in a large healthcare or education environment or government agency is required.

- Oncology Nursing Certification (OCN) and/or Association of Clinical Research Professionals (CCRC) or Society of Clinical Research Associates (CCRP) certification must be obtained within 2 years of hire.
- American Heart Association: BLS is required.

- Candidates must have effective oral and communication skills, excellent organizational skills, and attention to detail.
- Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Teams, Planner, and PowerPoint.
