The program, UCSB LIFTED, will offer a Bachelor of Arts in Comparative Literature that draws from the humanities and fine arts and the social sciences, accessible to individuals incarcerated in California State Prison, Corcoran (CSP-COR). This cross-cultural humanities major acquaints students with foundational ideas, cultural norms, and artistic practices of diverse societies. Their studies will enable them to develop their written and oral communication skills and develop facility in critical analysis and analytic problem solving. Learn more about the benefits of working at UC Brief Summary of Job Duties: Established in the Fall of 2022, LIFTED (Leveraging Inspiring Futures through Educational Degrees) is a program to establish University of California B.A. degree opportunities for incarcerated Californians who have completed A.A. degrees for transfer to a UC campus. Under the direction of the UCSB LIFTED Faculty Director, the Program Manager applies professional student services concepts to provide assistance to individuals incarcerated in California State Prison, Corcoran (CSP-COR), going through the transfer process into UC Santa Barbara. This role involves a wide range of student services duties and responsibilities. This involves working closely with the students at the California State Prison, Corcoran (CSP-COR), and involves time working with students at the facility. Duties include managing professional and student staff, providing faculty and student trainings, maintaining relationships with the prison, and collaborating on central policymaking. Responsibilities include oversight of all program processes and procedures, involving campus and UC policies, as well as California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) rules and regulations that have an impact beyond the unit. Travels regularly to California State Prison, Corcoran (CSP-COR) to work with the students who are enrolled in the program and the faculty to teach the courses for the program. For reference, below are UC's policies addressing some forms of misconduct: UC Sexual Violence and Sexual Harassment Policy UC Anti-Discrimination Policy Abusive Conduct in the Workplace Job Functions and Percentages of Time: 40% Student Affairs - Serves as the LIFTED Program Manager and works closely with the Faculty Director and applies professional student services concepts in providing a variety of student services to the individuals incarcerated in California State Prison, Corcoran (CSP-COR), and to faculty and management within UCSB, Bakersfield College, and the California Department of Corrections adn Rehabilitation (CDCR). Recruitment and Admissions: Oversees and implements outreach programs and strategy with specifically targeted institutions to meet LIFTED program goals; coordinates, reviews, and advises the Faculty Director on the transferability and applicability of non-UC courses. Advises prospective students on necessary academic preparation; appropriateness of program as it pertains to the prospective applicant's goals; reviews domestic transcripts for degree eligibility; initiates and arranges student recruitment visits. Student Conduct: Provides information to students and faculty regarding organization policies and procedures on student conduct. Student Orientation: Conducts orientations of new students. 40% Academic Affairs - Provides advice and assistance on academic and degree programs and major requirements; assists students in determining a major, alternative academic options, resolving schedule conflicts, and similar issues. Financial Aid: Recommends petitions exceptions that affect the requirements of multiple departments and facilitates new course approval through interaction with campus departments/committees. Advises on financial aid options and recommends resolution of extremely sensitive, specialized, and complex financial aid issues; and administers programs, grants and restricted funds. Career Counseling: Advises department/college/school students on resume preparation and interviewing. Academic Personnel: Coordinates all faculty appointments to teach courses at the prison each quarter. Ensures all policies and procedures are followed per the rules and regulations of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. 20% Operation & Events - Operation: Advises the Faculty Director on available funds for entering students based on funding sources and manages the overall LIFTED budget. Recruit, train, supervise and develop career (and student) staff. Assess and manage staff performance, provide feedback, and establish goals. Plan, organize, and coordinate staff workload. Responsible for enhancing staff engagement. Identify and recommend opportunities for staff training and professional growth. Events: Coordinates and implements non-complex student events and assists in the planning and implementation of complex events. Professional Development: Participates in professional student services committees that develop policies and procedures with nationwide impact.
