Job Purpose

Protection Engineers perform a wide range of duties including network fault and protection coordination studies, relay setting development and protection reviews to provide complex system protection designs for small-and large-scale projects. This ensures effective system operation and support for other National Grid business units with appropriate technical expertise to meet local needs. They may also perform complex disturbance investigations to recommend corrective action or to prevent recurring problems.

Key Accountabilities
  • Analyze data using ASPEN OneLiner, symmetrical components, and manufacturer equipment software to support the department's decision-making process and capital construction program.
  • Execute instructions and requests, plan and organize resources and make appropriate arrangements to ensure that work is carried out efficiently and in line with relevant policies and processes.
  • Review and approve protection related drawings.
  • Perform coordination and short circuit engineering studies, analysis and disturbance investigations, under supervision, in order to recommend corrective action in problem areas, or to prevent problems
  • Continuously build upon technical/professional skills within own or other areas of specialization or processes to continually grow your personal contribution to the business.
Qualifications
  • A Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited engineering program. Emphasis in electric power is a plus.
  • Minimum 2 years of specific / relevant work experience in Protection.
  • Engineer in Training Certificate (EIT) is desirable.
  • Proficient MS Office computer skills (Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, etc.)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent time management and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Valid Driver's License.

Salary:
$97,000 - $114,000 per year
