| Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The mission of the School of Social Work is to advance equity, transform systems, and improve lives. The School's curriculum supports the mission and recognizes the uniqueness of the region served, including concerns for disadvantaged, vulnerable, and oppressed individuals, families, and communities. Classes provide rigorous and evidence-based content, and give students the opportunity to explore theory, learn intervention skills and engage in challenging dialogue with colleagues. The School works to become the leading school of social work for impact - generating knowledge with powerful and positive consequences.
The School of Social Work offers M.S.W. and Ph.D. degrees. Dual degrees are offered in Law, Public Health, Public Administration, and Divinity (with Duke University). The faculty members of the School of Social Work have strong collaborative relationships with many campus units such as the Schools of Medicine, Public Health, Nursing, Law, Government, Education, and the Department of City and Regional Planning as well as University Centers and Institutes such as the Cecil G. Sheps Center for Health Services Research, the Carolina Population Center, the Center for Developmental Sciences, Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute, and the Institute on Aging. | Position Summary |
The Associate Director of Events and Volunteer Management is responsible for building strong relationships with
UNC School of Social Work alumni and friends, the Board of Advisors, and Alumni Council to advance the mission and vision of the School of Social Work. Reporting to the Director of Annual Giving and Donor Relations, this position is expected to develop, budget, and implement donor and alumni events and work independently under the direction of Advancement leadership to plan and execute board and alumni council activities.
In addition to planning current school-wide signature events such as the Bobby Boyd Leadership Lecture, this role will create a special events program of local, regional and virtual engagement opportunities focused on cultivating and stewarding donor support. While prioritizing advancement events, the Associate Director will also coordinate additional events sponsored by the
UNC School of Social Work. This role requires keen attention to budgetary and logistical details as well as creativity, resilience, and problem-solving skills.
This position also plays a central role in coordinating volunteer leadership activities. As the School embarks on the largest fundraising campaign in its history, the Board of Advisors will play a key role in advancing the school's mission and campaign success. This role will work with the Dean and Chief Development Officer to schedule, plan, and execute all activities related to the board of advisors' and alumni council's business and meetings. |
| Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Minimum of a bachelor's degree required (or foreign degree equivalent) with related experience. For positions with responsibility for direct solicitation of gifts and funds, a minimum of 1 year of professional-level, direct solicitation/fundraising experience is required. |
| Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
The successful candidate will have the following:
* Demonstrate expertise in executing all facets of donor-focused events, strong interpersonal skills, comfort engaging with high-level prospects and School leadership, and exceptional organizational skills
* Ability to craft and execute an annual events strategy that aligns with the school's financial and development objectives and supports the school's philanthropic goals
* At least 3 years of demonstrated experience in planning and executing events
* Experience with project management and budget oversight
* Excellent organizational skills with the ability to handle deadlines and multiple priorities
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Proficiency with MS Word and Excel
* Must be self-motivated, proactive and innovative
* Ability to work independently
* Availability to travel occasionally and work some evenings and weekends as needed |
| Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
* Experience working with large databases, including running queries and managing accurate data entry
* Experience working with the
UNC Davie database
* Experience working within an institution of higher education
* Knowledge of the university and its physical campus |
| Special Physical/Mental Requirements |
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, as this position works with various event supplies |
