About The Role

First Bank of Montana is hiring a Commercial/Ag Lender to be an integral part of our team in Northcentral Montana! Do you have lending experience and are interested in developing relationships that help your customers and community thrive and growing within the banking field? This is the opportunity for you! This position involves making commercial/agricultural loans to the bank's customers and requires a positive attitude and great customer service skills. The ability to work in a team atmosphere and promote the bank's products and services is required. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will have extensive contact with customers, vendors, the general public and bank staff. He/She will be expected to conduct him/herself in a manner that will enhance the overall efficiency and image of the bank. It will be required to build and maintain a loan portfolio and to be a liaison between the bank and its customers. Community involvement and participation in bank sponsored activities is required. Familiarity with agricultural production and ability to learn about agriculture is a must.

Must comply with applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Dodd-Frank Act, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control. Must complete the assigned online training courses and achieve a score of 85% or greater by due date.

Responsible for maintaining loan quality in compliance with Bank policy and procedures, underwriting standards, and documentation requirements.

Loan Officer Essential Functions:

  • Maintain a working knowledge of all bank products and services
  • Grow your in-house loan portfolio.
  • Identify and develop profitable relationships with potential new customers by maintaining an aggressive call schedule.
  • Cross-sell bank products and refer customers, when appropriate, to other departments or affiliate banks.
  • Assist in identifying and implementing new products and services.
  • Participate in market analysis of competitors' rates and make recommendations based on the findings.
  • Develop and maintain profitable relationships with new and existing customers.
  • Obtain loan applications, properly counsel applicants, analyze financial and related data, determine appropriate pricing and loan structure and make appropriate loan decisions according to bank policies and procedures.
  • Maintain high service standards for all customers (internal and external), working closely with First Bank of Montana managers and staff.
  • Review all credit reports, financial statements, tax returns, title insurance commitments and appraisals to ensure all documentation is complete and correct.
  • Monitor and act appropriately on past due loans to ensure compliance with bank's policies, procedures, and goals.
  • Maintain a current awareness of legal and regulatory developments and guidelines, and current knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and issues related to compliance for the bank.

Other Job Functions:

  • Perform job functions in compliance with all company policies and procedures, federal and state rules and regulations as applicable to the position, including, but not limited to BSA/AML, OFAC and GLBA/privacy rules.
  • Keep management appropriately informed of area activities and of any significant problems.
  • Participate in community service and bank sponsored activities that serve and support the mission and values of First Bank of Montana.
  • Provide superior internal and external customer service: must demonstrate self-governance, courtesy, and respect toward external customers as well as internal customers (all organization personnel).
  • Represent First Bank of Montana in a professional manner which includes a professional image, confidentiality, a positive "can-do" attitude, punctuality, flexibility and adaptability in meeting bank and customer needs. Keep work area tidy and maintain customer privacy. Attend and participate in meetings as required.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this job in order to accomplish, among other things, in-person contact with customers.

About You

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • 5 years lending experience with emphasis on commercial and/or agricultural loans
  • History of growing loan portfolio

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, ABILITY:

  • Ability to work quickly and accurately
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions
  • General understanding of the field of agriculture
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook, etc. and the ability to learn new systems/applications
  • Credit analysis ability

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with minimal noise.

Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in an emergency situation.

Specific lifting abilities required by this job include: Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include: The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation/inspection of machines and/or using measurement devices at distances close to the eyes.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: Starting salary is dependent upon relevant experience and may vary based on the geographic location of the position.
