Location: Mercy Springfield Schedule: Full-Time | Monday-Friday Days | Every 4th Weekend Primary Assignment: Oncology Infusion Center | Additional Coverage: Main Campus Relocation Assistance Available
Position Overview
Join a collaborative, patient-centered care team where your clinical expertise directly impacts outcomes. As an Oncology Infusion Clinical Pharmacist, you will partner closely with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe, effective, and evidence-based medication therapy. You will serve as a trusted clinical resource, providing medication management, drug information, and therapeutic recommendations while supporting Mercy's mission, values, and service standards.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care & Medication Management
- Review patient medical records to evaluate the appropriateness of medication therapy
- Develop and implement individualized, patient-centered treatment plans
- Monitor therapy outcomes and adjust pharmacologic plans to optimize efficacy and safety
- Assess for drug interactions, contraindications, and adverse effects
- Provide dosing recommendations, administration guidance, and clinical consults
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and care teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation of medication plans and patient progress
Collaboration & Communication
- Serve as a drug information resource for providers, nursing staff, and patients
- Communicate proactively regarding medication availability, formulary considerations, and care pathways
- Build strong working relationships across departments and contribute to a team-oriented environment
Oncology & Specialty Clinical Expertise
- Support oncology infusion services through specialized pharmacotherapy knowledge
- Participate in investigational protocols and evolving treatment strategies as applicable
- Maintain and grow subspecialty expertise to serve as a clinical resource within designated care areas
Quality, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and organizational standards
- Participate in quality assurance initiatives, including medication use evaluations (MUEs) and adverse drug event reporting
- Identify and resolve potential medication-related issues to enhance patient safety
- Adhere to confidentiality policies and safety protocols
Education & Professional Development
- Precept pharmacy students and residents
- Provide in-services and educational programs for staff
- Support competency development across pharmacy and clinical teams
- Maintain licensure and stay current with clinical advancements through continuing education
Operations & Systems
- Demonstrate proficiency in pharmacy systems, including Epic, Micromedex, and automation technologies (e.g., Omnicell, McKesson, ScriptPro)
- Perform order verification and clinical documentation accurately and efficiently
- Complete required medication storage inspections, expiration checks, and compliance documentation
Professionalism & Service Excellence
- Deliver exceptional service using Mercy's communication and service standards
- Maintain professionalism, teamwork, and respect in all interactions
- Adhere to dress code, hygiene, and PPE requirements
- Effectively manage time and prioritize responsibilities in a fast-paced clinical environment
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from an accredited program
- Active pharmacist license (or eligibility to obtain licensure)
- Strong clinical judgment, communication, and collaboration skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD)
- PGY-1 Residency training
- 2+ years of clinical pharmacy experience, preferably in oncology or infusion services
- Board Certification (e.g., BCPS or oncology specialization)
