Salary Range Starting at: $30.00/ per hour

Job Objective:

As a Music Coordinator you will give music education instruction to students of all ages and ability levels in a specified instrumental or vocal subject area. You will also design instructional programs, prepare lesson plans and instructional materials, present subject matter demonstrating proper techniques, and perform classroom management tasks. Your goal will be to prepare students for readiness to perform in Salvation Army musical program recitals and performances as required. This is a ministry position that requires participation in and support of faith building activities and worship experiences.

What You Will Do:



  • Provide state of the art and relevant instruction that contributes to each member class/program goals.
  • Develop and instruct fun, energetic and highly motivational classes for all ages and skill levels.
  • Implement safety measure for classes to insure the health and safety of class participants.
  • Ensure that the ultimate goal of spiritual, emotional and physical regeneration of all people in represented and infused in all programs, trainings, customer relations, and levels of operation.
  • Participate with a quarterly recital program
  • Participate with Sunday praise team


  • Other tasks as assigned by leadership



Minimum Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.

Education: Bachelor's Degree in music or 8 years experience in teaching and performing music.

Background Checks: Position requires a background check to be completed and all background check results will be reviewed.

Experience: Music background and proficiency with musical instruments, prior experience teaching or working in music instruction. At least 3 references required.

Certifications: Must have a valid driver's license and maintain The Salvation Army Driver's qualification standard; must complete Safe From Harm training.

Skills/Abilities:



  • Able to speak, write and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with leadership, assistant teachers and students
  • Proficiency with music theory and musical instruments
  • Ability to teach all range of students (beginner, intermediate, advanced) for a variety of ages (specifically youth ages 7-17).
  • A minimum of one (1) year experience teaching various or specific group exercise programs.
  • Able to create, plan, teach, demonstrate, and evaluate lessons for groups of music students, helping them practice, improve and prepare to perform
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft products and ability to learn electronic reporting systems
  • Meet all health and safety regulations as required



Supervisory Responsibility: Basic supervision of students and additional music teachers as program expands.

Physical Requirements Include:



  • Good speaking, hearing and vision ability, and excellent manual dexterity
  • Lifting, pulling and pushing of materials up to 30 pounds
  • May require bending, squatting, walking
  • May require standing for extended periods


Working Conditions: Work is performed in an office environment. Weekend and evening work is required.

Travel: May require attendance at events or concerts (perhaps riding in Salvation Army vehicles or driving them to such events).
