Organizational Unit Overview
ECU Libraries is a branch of Academic Affairs and reports through the Provost/ Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs. ECU Libraries serves East Carolina University faculty, students, staff and visitors by offering library research and services to support the research, instruction and service goals of the University. ECU Libraries is comprised of Joyner Library on ECU's main campus, Laupus Library on ECU's health sciences campus, and the Music Library, located in the Fletcher Music building.
Job Duties
The Department of Research & Instructional Services at Joyner Library seeks a candidate to provide administrative and technical support for library operations, including preparing classrooms, coordinating with technology staff, and maintaining service statistics and reports. The position supports Springshare tools (LibAnswers, LibCal, LibGuides) through account management, feature updates, and accessibility review. It also provides reference services, assisting patrons with research, databases, government documents, and general inquiries, and referring complex questions as needed. The role coordinates scheduling for library instruction, research consultations, and reference services in collaboration with faculty and staff; manages office supplies; and contributes to departmental assessment, meetings, and ongoing projects.

  • Provide administrative and technical support, including classroom setup, statistics tracking, and supply management - 20%
  • Maintain and support Springshare tools (LibAnswers, LibCal, LibGuides), including accounts and accessibility review - 25%
  • Deliver reference services, guiding patrons to appropriate resources and providing research assistance - 25%
  • Coordinate and schedule library instruction, research consultations, and reference coverage - 25%
  • Participate in professional development, committee work, and other assigned duties - 5%

Minimum Education/Experience
High school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience in library services, office support, or related field; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
License or Certification required by statute or regulation

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Experience coordinating schedules or calendars in a library setting
  • Training and experience delivering reference service in an academic library
  • Familiarity with Springshare products (LibGuides, LibCal, LibAnswers, LibChat, etc.)
  • Experience collecting, managing, and reporting service or program statistics
  • Knowledge of basic computer applications
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Familiarity with trends in higher education
