ARES seeks an experienced Sr. Quality Engineer to provide quality support on a NASA Engineering and Safety Center (NESC) Mechanical Systems Technical Discipline Team (TDT). The chosen candidate must possess the ability to work professionally as a NASA representative and successfully foster a positive relationship with our internal and external customers. This is a fast-paced environment that requires an outgoing and positive attitude and the ability to handle multiple priority tasks. The successful applicant must possess leadership skills and be able to communicate mission issues and risks as they apply to programmatic, technical, and safety concerns. Scope of Position:

  • The scope of this effort is to participate as a member on a NASA Engineering and Safety Center (NESC) Mechanical Systems Technical Discipline Team (TDT).

Key Responsibilities

  • Specified activities include:
  • Make and/or express expert opinion, advice, and guidance on mechanical systems and other related areas of interest.
  • Perform quick response and initial evaluations of independent technical assessment requests; and support NASA Technical Fellow by performing short duration special discipline studies
  • Perform technical research, technical reviews, and analysis on mechanical systems related materials, submit findings/comments to the NASA
  • Participate in TDT team meetings and activities via teleconferencing and in other technical meetings as requested by NASA.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in aerospace or defense electronics, preferably with FTS or safety-critical systems.
  • Strong knowledge of Radio Frequency (RF) systems, command destruct receivers, and high-reliability circuit design.
  • Familiarity with NASA, MIL-STD, and FAA range safety and FTS requirements.
  • Hands-on experience with environmental testing (thermal, vibration, Electromagnetic Interference/ Electromagnetic Compatibility).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in cross-disciplinary teams
  • Security clearance may be required depending on program.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Be a self-starter, able to work independently with little or no supervision.
  • Be pro-active and confident, as well as a team-player who is able to interface with technical and management personnel.
  • Have experience working on the NASA Engineering and Safety Center (NESC) Mechanical Systems Technical Discipline Team (TDT).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 7 or more years of directly related quality or engineering experience.
