Job Summary

The Newborns & Neighbors Community-Driven Perinatal Peer Support Program at the Drexel University Dornsife School of Public Health seeks a Training Specialist to support innovative perinatal peer and mental health support programming for Black and Latine birthing people in Philadelphia.

Newborns & Neighbors is a community-driven program that provides perinatal peer and mental health support to combat persistent racial/ethnic inequities in perinatal mental health. Our model is grounded in lived experience expertise, community-building, and culturally-responsive mental health support. Newborns & Neighbors perinatal peer support specialists are lived experience experts who are trained to provide 1:1 and group-based responsive, personalized peer support that emphasizes "authentic presence," relationship-building, and continuity. Newborns & Neighbors increases access to mental health services for Black and Latine pregnant/birthing people by providing perinatal peer support, co-facilitating group therapy, and providing direct access to one-on-one culturally-responsive therapy, through a partnership with community-led mental health practice.

The Training Specialist will be primarily responsible for the development and delivery of the Newborns & Neighbors training curriculum content, in conjunction with other program staff. The individual in this role ongoing professional development and training sessions. Ongoing refresher sessions will cover topics such as navigating and supporting through loss and grief, emerging issues in perinatal mental health, and identifying signs of substance use challenges and offering support. Additional sessions will also cover timely topics identified by peer support specialists and/or the training specialist, such as identifying signs of and supporting pregnant and birthing people experiencing intimate partner violence, advanced infant feeding support, strategies to prioritize and model self-care, and policy and advocacy.

The Training Specialist is further responsible for supporting perinatal peer support specialists in completing their PA perinatal doula certification and obtaining an NPI number; and navigating and executing Medicaid billing and reimbursement. The successful candidate will have professional and lived experience expertise in perinatal health, be an energetic leader and self-starter, capable of teamwork, possess a diverse skillset and able to effectively multi-task and problem solve.

This position is grant-funded; employment is contingent upon the continued availability of those funds.

Essential Functions

• Develop and deliver the Newborns & Neighbors training curriculum content, in conjunction with other program staff.
• Conduct ongoing professional development and training sessions - (Essential)
• Support perinatal peer support specialists in completing their PA perinatal doula certification and obtaining an NPI number
• Helping perinatal peer support specialists in navigating and executing Medicaid billing and reimbursement

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree
• Minimum of 5 years in perinatal health
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and coordination skills
• Enthusiastic, nurturing, and adaptable approach to teaching
• Excellent presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
• Ability to multi-task and be flexible to changes
• Strong organizational, planning, and facilitation skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic computer skills such as internet searching and completing online forms

Additional Information

This is a Part-Time per diem position classified as Non-Exempt. The offered pay is based on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
