Overview
This position oversees the simulation program, which includes planning and organizing activities in the simulation labs, and managing simulation lab staff and schedules. This position assists health science and public safety instructors with the preparation of instructional materials and learning events, ensuring proper use of the simulation areas and implementation of best practices. This position maintains specialized instruments and equipment and manages the lab/materials budget to include ordering and receiving supplies/equipment and monitoring balances. This position will be open until filled, with a first review date of May 4, 2026. After this date, the recruitment may close without further notice. Responsibilities
Simulation & Instructional Leadership
Partner with faculty in nursing, EMT, the police academy and other programs to develop simulations and evaluation tools for simulation exercises, and use available technologies to conduct simulation exercises.
- Evaluate learning effectiveness and satisfaction with lab experiences in partnership with faculty. Maintain productivity and education effectiveness systems.
- Support faculty in the development of effective teaching strategies centered on cinical simulation in the nursing, allied health, pre-hospital and public safety programs including prebriefing, simulation and debriefing.
- Collaborate with health and public safety educators to ensure simulations align with learning outcomes and objectives.
- Coordinate with WCD and other external constituents to showcase health careers using patient simulations to support health care partnerships and continuing education opportunities.
- Set up labs to include mixing and dispensing solutions, preparing moulage, creating helpful signs and handouts, and checking instruments and equipment.
- Oversee patient simulation labs at the Beloit-Janesville Campus and outreach sites. Manage and maintain equipment, facilitate equipment upgrades, and acquire appropriate training to remain current in associated technologies.
- Develop, implement, update and monitor simulation lab policies, procedures, use and operations.
- Ensure simulation activities follow best practice guidelines per Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) standards.
- Maintain safe facilities. Model safe behaviors, direct students in emergency procedures, and intervene when unsafe behaviors are observed.
- Integrate evidence-based practice into simulation planning and development. Assist with instructor training in healthcare simulation best practices.
- Maintain Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) credentials per SSH standards of best practice.
Simulation Lab Management
- Maintain good working condition of all facilities, instruments, and equipment by performing minor adjustments or scheduling maintenance or replacement.
- Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain technology-supported simulation equipment in coordination with the IT Department.
- Maintain simulation vendor contracts and relationships.
- Maintain a neat, organized facility; properly dispose of used materials and specimens.
- Oversee and coordinate the work of the Simulation Lab Specialist, part-time lab assistants and student workers. Ensure simulation lab staff are trained and meet educational requirements to participate in simulation activities independently.
- Manage the schedules of the simulation staff and use of the simulation labs.
- Maintain records and documentation on supplies, instruments, and equipment, including human patient simulators.
- Order supplies and materials.
Develop and Administer Budgets
- Identify budget needs, prepare budget proposals and obtain approval.
- Submit budgets for approval and monitor expenses.
- Identify simulation maintenance and repair and adequately plan in the budget to ensure proper equipment for educational needs.
- Research and recommend new equipment necessary to improve simulation lab operations.
Other duties
- Develop and maintain the simulation program shared drive.
- Participate in professional development activities.
- Participate in college committees and initiatives.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Basic knowledge of using and maintaining high- and mid-fidelity simulation manikins.
- Basic knowledge of how to operate and maintain AV equipment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications.
- Knowledge of course development and education methodology for adult learners.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability working with diverse individuals.
- Demonstrated proficiency in simulation lab technologies.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in a healthcare-related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Two (2) years of clinical patient care. Clinical simulation experience is preferred.
- Current BLS certification.
- Current Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) certification by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) is preferred.
