Job Summary
The Driver Coach & Trainer at Arc3 Gases will be based out of the Richmond, VA area and will report to and assist the Fleet Safety & Compliance Manager, John Toler, with the Samsara coaching and training program for Arc3's entire commercial fleet. The Driver Coach & Trainer will work with Fleet Management, Branch Operations Management, the Cryogenics group, the BevCarb team, and others to support our operations and our drivers. He/she will assist with the Entry-Level Driver Training program, which helps new employees acquire their CDLs in an effective and efficient manner. And he/she will generally advocate for drivers with the Fleet Safety & Compliance Manager to ensure that Arc3 is creating a safe work environment and to make Arc3 the premier employer for drivers in our region. Primary Duties include: Monitoring the Samsara Dash Cam / Telematics program:
- Educate drivers on how the system functions
- Build trust with the drivers
- Adjust Samsara's triggering parameters to promote safety
- Adjust the appropriate triggering events to monitor, and continually evaluate what product features to use
- Address unsafe driving and implement it consistently and fairly
- Use concrete, objective data to set measurable goals for drivers and track performance against those goals
- Maintain records of driver coaching and interventions
- Coach drivers to address unsafe driving practices and violations of company policy
- Educate drivers on the programs and processes to acknowledge / reward positive driver behavior and performance
- If unable to resolve unsafe driving through collaborative coaching, involve the Fleet Safety & Compliance Manager, line management, and HR for transition to a disciplinary process
- Address clear and present hazards immediately and involve management at all necessary levels
- Assist the Fleet Safety & Compliance Manager with onboarding new hires in the Virginia region, and with newly implemented safety initiatives
Driver Training and Support:
- Partner with Safety, Fleet Management, Branch Operations Management, the Cryogenics group, the Bevcarb team and others to assist with programs and activities designed to support our operations and our drivers
- Assist the Fleet Safety & Compliance Manager with driver safety and compliance training through internally developed training programs as well as through external programs, such as Smith System, JJ Keller, etc.
- Coach and train drivers on safety and compliance, including riding with them as needed
- Make the Fleet Safety & Compliance Manager aware of challenges faced by our drivers and identify equipment issues
- Help Safety, Fleet, and Branch Operations ensure proper performance by drivers of required compliance and safety practices, such as legal weight loading, placarding, ship manifests, hours logs, pre- and post-trip inspections, etc.
- Help educate drivers on vehicle maintenance responsibilities and help Fleet Management ensure that maintenance is performed as needed
- Assist in identifying potential equipment in need of repair or that could pose a hazard
- Assist with the Entry-Level Driver Training program, which helps new employees acquire their CDLs in an effective and efficient manner
- Advocate for drivers with the Fleet Safety & Compliance Manager to ensure that we create a safe work environment and to make Arc3 the premier employer for drivers in our region
- Work with the drivers to achieve organizational goals
- Learn driver job functions for each division
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of CDL driving experience
- 3+ years with Arc3 Gases
- A Class A commercial license with hazardous materials and tanker endorsements is preferred. A Class B commercial license with hazardous materials and tanker endorsement will also be considered.
- Prior experience in training and coaching CDL drivers
- Excellent driver safety record

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Must possess the mobility to work in a standard office setting, as well as an outside environment, including climbing into, driving, and climbing out of trucks in extreme hot and cold temperatures, and to use standard office equipment, including a computer, and to attend meetings at various sites within and away from the office, and to lift and carry materials weighing up to 20 pounds.
