The primary purpose of the Professional Accountant is to provide assistance to the Business Operations Team. Includes processing journal entries, interdepartmental transfers, and vouchers,. The Professional Accountant will work with many types of funds which includes general funds (state appropriated and appropriated receipts), auxiliary and sales and services funds, and foundation and agency. Also provides business office staff coverage and assistance with the deposit process. Specifically,
- Process journal entries, small purchase vouchers, and interdepartmental transfers, and coordinate data collection for large purchase order requisitions.
- Assist with the check deposit process as needed.
- Provide coverage and support for Business Operations Suite staff as required.

| Minimum Experience/Education |
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience in accounting functions such as processing journal entries, reconciling accounts, and handling financial transactions.
- Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and proficiency in financial systems and Microsoft Excel

- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets, specifically in an accounting or financial environment
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and procedures, including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively
- Ability to understand, analyze, and interpret university spending guidelines across multiple funding sources
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

- Demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service

- Experience performing account reconciliations, journal entries, and financial analysis in a complex financial system environment
- Training or coursework in governmental or fund accounting preferred
- Experience providing customer service and financial support to multiple departments or stakeholders
- Working knowledge of internal control procedures and audit compliance practices
