About the Opportunity:

The Senior Legal Specialist provides highly skilled and advanced technical legal support to designated attorneys, following applicable court rules and procedures and County office standards; prepares files and legal documents; manages discovery and digital evidence; assists in criminal trial preparation. Demonstrates advanced-level proficiency in the full scope of duties and is expected to independently perform legal support activities of a complex clerical nature. Senior Legal Specialists are responsible for providing legal assistance and administrative support to several assigned attorneys in the District Attorney's Office and are also a subject matter expert in one or more advanced level responsibilities. May provide guidance or instruction to administrative and legal support staff engaged in functional activities. The Legal Specialist series is distinguished from the Administrative Specialist series in that Legal Specialists are required to understand and apply legal terminology and knowledge of state and federal court rules and procedures applicable to a wide variety of criminal prosecution matters or civil litigation.

  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with individuals and groups who come from diverse backgrounds and represent members of the public, coworkers, and/or vendors.

  • Maintain and preserve sensitive and confidential information.

  • Cope with exposure to potentially disturbing or traumatic content.

About the Department/Division:

This position in the District Attorney's Office Criminal Prosecution Program will provide highly skilled and advanced technical legal support to designated attorneys as a senior member of our misdemeanor trial team. Job duties include handling complex cases, working on special projects and team assignments as needed, training and mentoring new team members, case intake, assisting with case preparation by managing police reports, providing copies to the defense, filing documents with the court, subpoenaing victims and witnesses for various court appearances, and preparing files for court.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Five (5) years of experience providing administrative or clerical support, three (3) years of which must be equal to the level of Legal Specialist II, in a public or private law office or in an office environment with a focus on legal issues; OR

  • Five (5) years of experience providing administrative or clerical support, two (2) years of which is in a prosecutor's office.

  • A Bachelor's or Associate's degree in a related field or a paralegal certificate may substitute for two (2) years of experience.
