What is the opportunity?

RBC Capital Markets (RBCCM) is seeking a technical expert and solution architect within Business and Client Services Technology group. This group servers the broader Operations Services & COO for RBC Capital Markets globally. This person will work collaboratively with stakeholders and technical teams to ensure a smooth client journey for both domestic and international Payments & Funding. You will be heavily involved in shaping the future technology landscape of RBCCM, by delivering key business values for our platforms while implementing strategic components servicing across all CM functions defined in our roadmap.

Development Manager, Payment & Funding is a strategic, forward looking leadership role and will provide critical risk management oversight and will be responsible for new business growth and client servicing to build long term solutions. You need to be an expert level organizer to resolve things in a structural manner that provides clarity and directions. You are not afraid of challenging the team on technical details and be able to think functionally.

What will you do ?

  • Data Flow Controls: Implement and monitor controls across all payment & Funding data flows, from originating systems through payment gateways to reference data.

  • Security Infrastructure: Design and maintain payment systems, networks, and infrastructure with security as the top priority, including policies and standards for secure handling, storage, and transmission.

  • Vulnerability Management: Conduct regular vulnerability assessments and penetration testing to identify and address potential weaknesses.

  • Data Protection: Implement measures to prevent unauthorized access, use, disclosure, modification, or destruction of sensitive payment information.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards such as AML and SOX.

  • System Maintenance: Ensure timely maintenance, updates, and upgrades of payment systems, software, and hardware for optimal performance and security.

  • Monitoring and Reporting: Generate reports and metrics to monitor system performance, detect anomalies, and track risk and fraud indicators.

  • Strategic Payments & Funding Technical Leadership: Lead development and execution of RBC's strategic payments methodologies, manage global stakeholders across asset types, identify business opportunities, and launch innovative solutions to grow market share and maintain competitive advantage.

  • People and Change Leadership: Lead with RBC's vision and values by establishing clear performance goals, supporting career development, fostering cross-enterprise collaboration, creating an exceptional employee experience through inclusive practices, maintaining a growth mindset, and guiding employees through change while keeping focus on business priorities.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-Have:

  • 8-10 years of experience as a Full Stack Developer with expertise in:

    • Front-end Development: Proficiency in Angular/React (or similar frameworks) and Python (e.g., Flask or Django) for building dynamic, responsive user interfaces.

    • Back-end Development: Strong experience with Java (Spring Boot), Python and FastAPI for developing scalable, high-performance services.

  • Proficiency in building and consuming REST APIs and working with microservices architectures.

  • Strong understanding of RDBMS (e.g., Oracle, MSSQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, ELK).

  • Experience with messaging platforms like Solace, MQ, or similar technologies.

  • Hands-on experience with DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure automation tools (e.g., Ansible scripts, HELM charts).

  • Proficiency in containerization and orchestration tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift).

  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and hands-on experience using tools like JIRA and Confluence.

  • Eagerness to share knowledge and mentor junior developers to promote best practices.

  • Experience building and supporting transactional and financial systems.

Nice-to-have

  • Strong expertise in operations architecture, banking ecosystem and regulatory requirements

  • Knowledge of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and distributed systems.

  • Exposure to event-driven architectures and distributed systems.

  • Strong understanding of Lifecycle of a Trade

  • Experience with managing vendor products across this space.

The expected salary range for the above position is $210,000 - $275,000 depending on factors including but not limited to the candidate's experience, skills, registration status; market conditions; and business needs.This salary range does not include other elements of total compensation, including a discretionary bonus and benefits such as a 401(k) program with company-matching contributions; health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance; and paid time-off plan.
