Summary

Manage, organize, and supervise the day-to-day operation of multiple personnel and large laboratory.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Organize, supervise and manage the day-to-day operation of the laboratory.

  • Manage multiple personnel in the accomplishment of lab goals.

  • Manage laboratory budget.

  • Train new personnel on lab and radiation safety, develop and apply standard quality control protocols.

  • Organize and manage independent research projects.

  • Meet with principle investigator on a regular basis to determine lab goals and needs.

  • Assist in the preparation of research grants, primarily in generation of preliminary data.

  • Participate in meetings with the principle investigator and staff to evaluate and interpret the validity of data, determine methodologies and evaluate lab procedures impacting the quality and timeliness of research.

  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.

  • Communicate with researchers in other laboratories, share ideas and research methodologies to improve the effectiveness of the research.

  • Keep abreast of research techniques and methodologies that might facilitate designated research projects.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge - Skills - Abilities
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential.

  • Strong critical thinking, problem solving and attentiveness to detail required.

  • Knowledge of scientific approach and methodologies.

  • Ability to direct the work of others. Ability to develop and follow research methodology and protocol.

  • Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise.

  • Ability to read, understands, follow and enforce safety procedures.

  • Ability to design, organizes, and coordinates scientific research projects.

Qualifications

Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on an equivalent basis.

Minimum Required Education: Bachelor of Science Degree

Minimum Required Experience: 8 years' experience required

Preferred Education: PhD preferred

Physical Requirements

Work requires occasionally lifting moderate weight materials, standing, or walking continuously.

Work Environment

Occasional exposure to dust, noise, temperature changes, or contact with water or other liquids. Work is performed in an environmentally controlled environment.

Sensory Acuity

Ability to detect and translate speech or other communication required. May occasionally require the ability to distinguish colors and perceive relative distances between objects.
