Position Summary:

The Medical College of Wisconsin's Department of Anesthesiology, Division of Pediatric Anesthesiology is seeking a Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant or Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CAA/CRNA). This position is located in Milwaukee, WI at Children's Wisconsinhospital campus. This role will work with a medically directed team involving faculty anesthesiologists, anesthesiology fellows, residents and advanced practice certified nurse anesthetists and CAAs. The successful candidate must possess the ability to provide high quality anesthesia care to a complex patient population, workingdirectly under the supervision of ourAdultAnesthesiologists and as part of a team of highly trained and dedicated team of CAAs and certified nurse anesthetists.

Position Highlights:
  • Administer general and local anesthesia

  • Maintainanesthesia delivery systems and monitors, including testing and calibration

  • Prepare patients to be effectively monitored

  • Monitor patients under anesthesia

  • Make recommendations regarding anesthetic care plans

  • Perform post-procedure tests on patients to ensure that they are recovering well

  • Responsible for the operation of anesthesia equipment to monitor patients while delivering direct anesthesia care.

  • Provide direct patient care before, during and after anesthesia to ensure continuity of care and quality.

  • Obtain complete patient medical histories, conducting physical exams, and pre-procedure interviews

  • Review the complete patient medical history to confirm its authenticity with the patient/family to ensure it is accurate with the physical exams and pre-procedure interviews

  • Administer/order required diagnostic and laboratory tests

  • Work with Anesthesiologiststo determine the next step of prep for the procedures and begin the stages of prepping the patient for the procedure

  • Employ CPR or other emergency procedures as indicated

  • Perform varies administrative duties that might involve collecting medical records, conducting patient chart reviews, and following up with patients/families pre or post procedures

Department/Division Highlights:

The Division of Pediatric Anesthesiology consists of 35 pediatric anesthesiologists and 12 advanced practice providers that practice at both CW's Milwaukee Campus and regional sites surrounding Milwaukee. Our team provides care to more than 30,000 children annually in perioperative anesthesia, critical care, and pain medicine settings. Our pediatric anesthesiologists practice in a collaborative and supportive environment with world-class surgical and medical staff to provide opportunities for developing clinical excellence in a range of subspecialty services, that are integral in the academic, research, educational, and quality improvement missions of the institutions.

Children's Wisconsin is the state's only independent health care system dedicated solely to the health and well-being of children. With more than 1.3 million annual connections with kids and families statewide, Children's provides a wide range of care and support - everything from routine care to lifesaving advances and treatment options, adoption services, child advocacy, and provides an insurance plan.

Children's and its joint venture with the Medical College of Wisconsin - the Children's Specialty Group, or CSG - are the largest providers of pediatric healthcare in the state, serving the children and families of Wisconsin with the highest level of care through their American College of Surgeons Level I Children's Surgery Verification Center, Level I Pediatric Trauma Center, Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence, 72-bed Level IV NICU, Level IV Epilepsy Center, and a 72-bed PICU. In 2024-2025, eight specialties were ranked byUS News & World Report: behavioral health, cancer; diabetes and endocrinology; gastroenterology and GI surgery; nephrology; neurology and neurosurgery; pulmonology; urology. With over 70 specialties and 675 providers, CSG providers had 290,000 outpatient visits at 13 regional care sites, 73,000 emergency department/trauma center visits, and over 10,800 inpatient admissions in 2024. CSG anesthesiologists provide perioperative care for more than 25,500 surgical, interventional, and complex diagnostic cases.

Qualifications:
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing

  • Master's degree from an accredited Nurse Anesthetist Program required

  • National Board of Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA) certification required

  • Candidates can be either a Certified Nurse Anesthetist or board eligible for certification as a CRNA

  • Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience: Pediatric healthcare; previous CRNA experience

  • Wisconsin RN license

  • AHA BCLS and/or ACLS required

Minimum Education:
  • CAA: Master's of Science in Anesthesiology

  • CRNA: Master's Degree or higher in Nursing

Certification:
  • Candidates can be either a Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant or Certified Nurse Anesthetists

  • Board eligible for certification are also encouraged to apply

Licensure:
  • Wisconsin licensure or eligible

  • AHA BCLS and/or ACLS
