Main Duties & Responsibilities

Summary/Objective

The Junior Maintenance Mechanic supports the maintenance and
reliability of CNC production equipment, including Swiss lathes and related
systems, by performing preventive maintenance, assisting with troubleshooting
and repairs, and responding to equipment issues during production. This role
works within established maintenance procedures and team direction and is
responsible for maintaining accurate work order documentation and supporting
safe, efficient shop operations.

Essential Functions

Under
general direction with periodic supervision or review performs the following:

  • Perform preventive maintenance (PM) on CNC production equipment, including Swiss lathes and supporting systems, at scheduled intervals.
  • Respond to equipment issues during production and assist with basic troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repairs.
  • Support senior maintenance personnel and/or leadership in diagnosing mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues.
  • Create, update, and close work orders in the maintenance system, ensuring accurate documentation of work performed, parts used, and equipment status.
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals, work orders, and technical documents to perform required maintenance and service.
  • Assist with equipment setup, adjustments, and changeover support as needed to maintain production flow.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout (LOTO), and verify equipment is in a safe condition prior to performing maintenance.
  • Maintain organization of tools, parts, and work areas, and assist in tracking and restocking maintenance consumables and spare parts.
  • Communicate equipment issues and repair status clearly to production and maintenance team members.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying recurring issues and reporting them to maintenance leadership.
  • Experience in MIG welding is a plus.

Supervisor Responsibility
This position does not have direct
supervisory responsibilities but is expected to work collaboratively with
production and maintenance team members.

The employee is occasionally required
to sit, climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must
frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move
up to 30 pounds. Specific vision
abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color
vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Environmental Surroundings -Work is performed in a CNC machine shop environment with exposure
to high noise levels, moving mechanical equipment, temperature fluctuations,
and metalworking processes. The role regularly involves working around
production machinery including CNC machines, bar feeders, conveyors, coolant
systems, and related equipment.

Unavoidable Hazards -Exposure to moving mechanical
parts, sharp edges, hot surfaces, metal chips, metalworking fluids, and
airborne particulates. Potential hazards include cuts, burns, strains, and
pinch points. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses,
hearing protection, and protective clothing is required.

Responsibilities
-Performs duties where
improper maintenance or inattention may result in equipment damage, production
downtime, or loss of productivity. Supports maintenance and upkeep of CNC
machines and associated systems in accordance with established procedures.

Material or Product
Responsibilities
-Performs duties requiring
attention to detail to ensure equipment is maintained in a condition that
supports product quality and process reliability.

Safety Responsibilities - Maintains a clean and organized work area and follows all
company safety policies and procedures, including proper use of PPE and
adherence to lockout/tagout (LOTO) requirements.

EXPERIENCE
Position type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Hours of work may vary dependent on
operational needs.

Travel

Travel is primarily local during the
business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be
expected.


Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

  • 2-5 years of maintenance, mechanical, or technical experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment, or equivalent technical training (trade school, military, or vocational program).
  • Basic mechanical aptitude with the ability to use hand tools and perform routine maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic technical documents, including manuals and work instructions.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Experience working in a CNC manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with preventive maintenance practices and basic troubleshooting of mechanical systems.
  • Exposure to electrical, pneumatic, or hydraulic systems.
  • Experience in using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) or similar work order system.
  • Familiarity with precision measuring instruments such as calipers and micrometers.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Basic understanding of mechanical systems and maintenance practices.
  • Ability to use standard hand tools and basic diagnostic tools safely and effectively.
  • Ability to read and understand technical documents, including equipment manuals, work instructions, and work orders.
  • Basic computer skills, including the ability to enter and update information in a maintenance management system (CMMS).
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly communicate equipment issues and repair status.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established procedures and safety requirements.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and support production needs.
  • Basic mathematical skills sufficient to perform measurements and routine maintenance tasks.

Compensation

In compliance with all states and cities requiring transparency of pay, the expected pay range for this position is $33.10 - $36.95

Compensation can vary depending on several factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, experience, competencies, and geographic location. Some roles may qualify for extra incentives like equity, commissions, or other variable performance-related bonuses.
