Main Duties & Responsibilities
Summary/Objective
The Senior Maintenance Mechanic is
responsible for maintaining and improving the reliability of CNC production
equipment, including Swiss lathes and related systems, by performing advanced
troubleshooting, repairs, and preventive maintenance. This role operates with a
high level of independence, leads complex diagnostics across mechanical,
electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems, and ensures accurate work order
documentation while supporting safe, efficient shop operations.
Essential Functions
Under
general direction with minimal supervision or review performs the following:
- Perform preventive maintenance (PM) on CNC production equipment, including Swiss lathes and supporting systems, and ensure PM completion aligns with production and maintenance schedules.
- Respond to equipment issues during production and independently diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
- Lead root cause analysis of equipment failures and implements corrective actions to reduce recurring downtime.
- Create, update, and close work orders in the maintenance system, ensuring detailed and accurate documentation of work performed, parts used, downtime causes, and corrective actions.
- Read and interpret equipment manuals, electrical schematics, and technical documents to perform advanced maintenance and repairs.
- Support and guide junior maintenance personnel by providing technical direction and assistance in troubleshooting and repair activities.
- Coordinate with production and leadership to prioritize maintenance activities based on equipment criticality and production impact.
- Assist with equipment setup, adjustments, installations, and process improvements to support production efficiency.
- Follow and enforce all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout (LOTO), and ensure equipment is in a safe condition prior to returning to service.
- Maintain organization of tools, parts, and work areas, and support identification and management of critical spare parts and maintenance inventory.
- Drive continuous improvement efforts by identifying trends in equipment performance and recommending process or maintenance improvements.
- Experience in MIG welding is a plus.

Supervisor Responsibility
This position does not have direct
supervisory responsibilities but is expected to provide technical guidance and
mentorship to junior maintenance personnel and work collaboratively with
production and leadership.

to sit, climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must
frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move

vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Environmental Surroundings -Work is performed in a CNC machine shop environment with exposure
to high noise levels, moving mechanical equipment, temperature fluctuations,
and metalworking processes. The role regularly involves working around
production machinery including CNC machines, bar feeders, conveyors, coolant
systems, and related equipment.
Unavoidable Hazards -Exposure to moving mechanical
parts, sharp edges, hot surfaces, metal chips, metalworking fluids, and
airborne particulates. Potential hazards include cuts, burns, strains, and
pinch points. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses,
hearing protection, and protective clothing is required.
Equipment / Process
Responsibilities -Performs duties where
improper maintenance or inattention may result in equipment damage, production
downtime, or loss of productivity. Supports maintenance and upkeep of CNC
machines and associated systems in accordance with established procedures.
Material or Product
Responsibilities -Performs duties requiring
attention to detail to ensure equipment is maintained in a condition that
supports product quality and process reliability.
Safety Responsibilities - Maintains a clean and organized work area and follows all
company safety policies and procedures, including proper use of PPE and
adherence to lockout/tagout (LOTO) requirements.
EXPERIENCE
Position type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Hours of work may vary dependent on
operational needs.
Travel
Travel is primarily local during the
business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be
expected.
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
- 5-8+ years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment, preferably supporting CNC production equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting and repair experience across mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents, including equipment manuals, electrical schematics, and work instructions.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Experience working in a CNC manufacturing environment, including Swiss lathes and related equipment.
- Experience supporting automation systems such as bar feeders, conveyors, or robotics.
- Proficiency using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for work order tracking and documentation.
Experience performing root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions for equipment failures.
Familiarity with precision measuring instruments such as calipers and micrometers.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems and their application in a manufacturing environment.
- Advanced troubleshooting and diagnostic skills with the ability to identify root causes of equipment issues.
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents, including schematics, manuals, and work instructions.
- Working knowledge of CMMS systems and ability to maintain accurate and detailed maintenance records.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively coordinate with production and leadership.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple maintenance activities in a fast-paced production environment.
- Ability to mentor and support the development of junior maintenance personnel.

Compensation
In compliance with all states and cities requiring transparency of pay, the expected pay range for this position is $36.75 - $41.27.
Compensation can vary depending on several factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, experience, competencies, and geographic location. Some roles may qualify for extra incentives like equity, commissions, or other variable performance-related bonuses.
