What to Expect
A Staff Manufacturing Equipment Engineer for Welding/Joiningin the Production Engineering team will be part of operating, sustaining, and improving automated manufacturing equipment in Battery Structure at GigaFactory Nevada (GFNV). This role will be the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for welding and joining Battery Structure (Enclosures and Top Covers), focusing on safety, build plan attainment, quality, cost efficiency,and team leadership while driving continuous improvement of manufacturing processes.
What You'll Do
- Sustain 24 by 7 production operations through responding to and resolving breakdowns quickly and efficiently to minimize downtime
- Support daily Production, Engineering, and Maintenance operations including planning, delivery, cost, yield (FPY), safety, quality, and staffing
- Optimize robotic welding operations, ensuring consistent, high-quality welds and minimal downtime
- Monitor automated weld cells, leveraging data analytics to drive continuous improvement and ensure equipment reliability
- Maintainhigh standardsin safety, product quality, resourceutilization, and preventative maintenance of facilities and equipment
- Support new product launches, upgrades, and material changes by developing process plans, tracking budgets, and resolving project risks
- Manage engineering changes by assessing risks and creating mitigation plans, including heavy short-term process adjustments
- Support shop floor transactions and production systems with critical awareness of downstream impact
- Lead and collaborate with Engineering, Process, Quality, and Maintenance to drive continuous improvement in safety, quality, cost, efficiency, and 5S initiatives while fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in Welding Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field or equivalent experience
- AWS Certified Resistance Welding is a plus
- Experience with metal joining technologies such as resistance welding, laser brazing, structural adhesive, and fastening systems
- Common programming knowledge of robotics and Weld controls for welding steel and aluminum
- Working knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack analysis, weld fixture design and tooling requirements
- 8+ years in high-volume, fast-paced manufacturing (automotive preferred), with evidence of exceptional ability
- Deep understanding of manufacturing KPIs, JIT systems, and action planning to drive results
- Proven success in collaboration with Engineering, Maintenance, and New Product Introduction (NPI) teams
- Strong knowledge of production systems, processes, product launches, and measurement/inspection techniques
- Demonstrated experience using 8D, 5 Why, Six Sigma (DMAIC), Ishikawa, and other analytical and problem-solving methodology to promote data-driven decision making
