We are seeking a proactive and skilled Facilities Technician to join our team. This role is essential for the daily operation, upkeep, and longterm reliability of our building systems. A major focus of this position will be supporting the vivarium, ensuring all equipment, utilities, and facility conditions meet strict compliance, performance, and environmental standards.

While the technician will not be stationed in the vivarium fulltime, the majority of the work for this role will take place within that environment, including completion of required PMs, CMs, environmental checks, and work orders specific to vivarium operations.

This is a handson role requiring strong technical ability, attention to detail, professionalism, and effective teamwork across the Facilities and Research departments.

Key Responsibilities Vivarium Support (Primary Focus)
  • Conduct regular walkthroughs to ensure the vivarium remains clean, operational, and compliant with facility and environmental standards.

  • Complete all preventative maintenance (PMs) and corrective maintenance (CMs) for vivariumrelated equipment, including HVAC components, air handling units, lighting systems, water supply systems, alarms, monitoring devices, and specialized mechanical systems.

  • Respond to vivariumspecific work orders promptly to ensure minimal disruption to research operations.

  • Collaborate with research and animalcare personnel to maintain proper environmental conditions and equipment uptime.

General Facility Responsibilities
  • Work Order Management: Respond quickly to daily maintenance requests, including plumbing, electrical, lighting, and general repairs.

  • Preventative Maintenance (PMs): Perform scheduled maintenance on HVAC systems, pumps, motors, mechanical equipment, and building systems.

  • Facility Inspections: Conduct routine building inspections-interior and exterior-including compliance walkthroughs, safety checks, and "IACUC" inspections.

  • Building Upkeep: Carry out general carpentry, drywall repair, tiling, cabinetry work, and light remodeling to maintain a clean and professional facility environment.

  • Welding & Metal Repair: Perform light to moderate welding tasks (MIG/TIG/arc). Safely operate welding machines, including proper setup, adjustment, material selection, and maintenance. Execute durable, accurate welds for metal repair, fabrication, equipment reinforcement, and structural support.

  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with the maintenance team and outside contractors to complete facilitywide projects and largescale repairs.

  • Emergency Response: Participate in an oncall rotation to resolve urgent issues during offhours.

Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems.

  • Welding Experience: Demonstrated experience performing MIG/TIG/arc welding and the ability to safely and effectively operate welding machines and related tools.

  • Equipment Competency: Ability to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair welding equipment and select appropriate materials for each job.

  • Vivarium Experience (Preferred): Familiarity with controlled environments, airhandling systems, environmental chambers, or regulated research spaces.

  • ProblemSolving: Strong troubleshooting abilities to identify costeffective, durable maintenance solutions.

  • Communication: Clear, professional communication with site managers, research teams, and external vendors.

  • Physical Stamina: Ability to lift 50 lbs., climb ladders, work at heights, and stand for extended periods.

  • Experience: Background in commercial facility maintenance or construction trades (carpentry, tiling, drywall, finishing) is highly preferred.

Software & Systems (Preferred)
  • Experience with a CMMS or digital maintenance platform for receiving, managing, and closing work orders.

  • Ability to track PM schedules, asset history, inventory, and compliance documentation.

  • Comfort using mobile devices or tablets for inspections, reporting, and realtime updates.

  • Familiarity with systems such as eMaint, Maximo, FMX, Service Channel, Maintenance Connection, Upkeep, or similar tools.

Salary Range

Annual Compensation:

  • $66,400 - $96,200 - Depending on experience.

This position does not provide visa sponsorship. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Estimated compensation for this position:

78,040.00 - 83,200.00 USD per year

This range is an estimate and actual compensation may differ. Final compensation packages are determined by various considerations including but not limited to candidate qualifications, location, market conditions, and internal considerations.
