The Boyce Lab (Dr. Andrew Boyce) in the Department of Neurosciences seeks a Lab Tech to work within a neurosciences research lab focused on neurobiology and the underlying cellular mechanisms of recovery in the stroke brain or following hypoxic brain injury, particularly in relation to learning and memory. The Research Specialist will assist in processing brain tissue and performing histology and analysis, and have the opportunity to work on imaging in stroke and other brain injury states.

Under direct supervision, the Lab Tech sets up lab experiments and/or participates in the fabrication and installation of equipment for specified classes or laboratory research projects within a life sciences discipline. Duties may include fabrication of research/testing components, preparing specimens, media, and equipment, making chemical solutions, performing basic laboratory techniques, and cleaning up after labs, as appropriate to the specific position. May assist students in lab activities and may perform miscellaneous administrative duties.

This is a part-time (0.25 FTE), benefits ineligible position.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.



Preferred Qualifications

* B.S. in Biology, Chemistry, Life Sciences, Neuroscience, Physics, Psychology or related field with at least 1 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Experience in any of the following is considered an additional asset:

* Performing tissue staining, immunohistochemical and histological analysis (particularly on stroke tissue) is highly preferable.

* Imaging analysis experience is highly preferable.

* Compiling and organizing large datasets.

* Monitoring laboratory equipment, and chemical/supplies inventory.
