Must-Haves Before You Hit the Road Licensed and ready: Class A CDL + DOT Medical Card. Cleared for the road: FMCSA Clearinghouse registration complete. Clean track record: 3 or fewer violations or accidents in 3 years. Road experience: At least 1 year of CDL driving, within the past 3 years. DOT-wise: Safety checks and regs in your blood. Capable: Lift (up to) 50 lbs to move freight if needed.
