This role supports major capital initiatives at the Duke Health and Hospital Cary campuses, advancing complex healthcare facilities that will serve patients and caregivers for generations. The successful candidate will serve as an MEP-focused and/or Senior Project Manager embedded within design, construction, and activation teams.

This is a hands-on, front-line position responsible for driving cross-disciplinary clarity, resolving technical conflicts, and ensuring building systems perform as intended at project turnover.

Plan and coordinate architectural and engineering services for Duke Health construction and renovation programs. Responsibilities include preparing and evaluating planning and engineering designs, developing performance specifications, and supporting the supervision of construction, renovation, and repair activities for Duke Health facilities and equipment.

This individual will oversee coordination of architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and related building systems from design development and planning through commissioning and activation.

Work Arrangement - On-site

DEPARTMENTAL PREFERENCES

8 years of project management experience preferred.

15+ years of experience in Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) preferred.

Master's degree preferred.

Professional licensure (AIA/RA and/or PE) preferred.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Training - Work generally requires a bachelor's degree in a specific engineering field.

Bachelor's degree in architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.

Experience - Work requires a minimum of eight years' experience in design, planning, evaluation and project management related to new construction and renovation of buildings and/or systems.

OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE.

Work Performed

Engineering Planning & Design Coordination




  • Plan and coordinate architectural and engineering services for construction and renovation programs
  • Prepare and evaluate architectural and engineering designs
  • Develop performance specifications for facilities and equipment
  • Support Duke stakeholders in planning proposed projects



Project Oversight & Budget Support




  • Assist in supervising design, construction, renovation, and repair activities
  • Prepare cost estimates and support budget development
  • Monitor project progress and overall performance



Compliance, Inspection & Quality Control




  • Inspect construction projects to ensure:
  • Compliance with safety standards
  • Adherence to approved specifications
  • Alignment with sound engineering practices



Coordination & Problem Resolution




  • Maintain strong collaboration with the Planning Office, departments, and key stakeholders
  • Resolve architectural and engineering design issues and project-related challenges



Documentation, Reporting & Analysis




  • Oversee preparation of technical and project documentation
  • Ensure appropriate staffing and task distribution
  • Prepare reports and analyses outlining project progress, risks, trends, and recommendations
