Production Manager


Summary


Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Production Manager is responsible for Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) systems at Energy Center Minneapolis district energy plants. Ensures safe, reliable, and efficient maintenance/calibration of plant instruments/meters and customer revenue meters. Manages a combination of union craft and lead I&C and contractor personnel. This position will be based in our Main Plant.


Principle Responsibilities/Key Results Areas


Instrumentation and Control Leadership
* Leads the day-to-day performance and coordination of plant I&C activities; directly supervises I&C staff and oversees I&C work order prioritization, planning, and scheduling functions; develops appropriate shifts, schedules, and staffing.
* Provides leadership to I&C staff; promotes strong safety culture, achieves effective and cost-conscious maintenance of thermal plants. Requires interpretation/review of technical documentation and equipment maintenance history; ensures best practices are incorporated into maintenance activities.
* Provides regular feedback to employees on their performance to allow them to capitalize on their strengths and focus on opportunities for improvement.
* Leads resolution of urgent plant issues; this may involve working extended hours, night shifts, and weekends.


Plant Leadership


* Serves as a member of plant leadership team and is capable of acting Plant Manager or filling in for other department managers.
* Promotes productivity and teamwork between departments through open communication, timely decision making and high standards. Supports and emphasizes importance of safety, environmental programs, and ensures regulatory compliance.
* Generates daily and monthly plant production reports; monitors, trends, and interprets plant and customer data; identifies plant performance and customer issues for resolution. Supports monthly customer billing of district energy customers.
* Conducts and participates in plant optimization, energy efficiency, feasibility studies, and system expansion studies. Collateral duties and special projects as assigned, including customer relations, business development, and engineering activities.


Project Management


* Responsible for managing plant projects exceeding $1M - determines priority, cost, manpower and time estimates; ensures compliance with engineering guidelines, specifications, industry codes and standards, and regulatory requirements.


* Determines priority, cost, manpower and time estimates, re-evaluating estimates to reflect changing job requirements and preparing job sequence requirements for projects.
* Responsible for selection, use, and field coordination between contractors, consultants, and material suppliers on assigned projects.


Requirements


Knowledge & Skills


* Strong leadership ability
* Excellent communications skills including written, verbal, and motivational
* Ability and willingness to lead and train coworkers to fully realize maximum team potential
* Ability to coordinate numerous activities under stress with poise, safely and successfully
* Possess an excellent working knowledge of operations and maintenance for efficient and effective production
* Strong background in MS Office suite applications especially Excel.
* Awareness of project scheduling software
* Ability to develop work plans and maintenance schedules
* Knowledge of district energy systems


Experience & Education


* Minimum of five (5) years' experience in plant operations, maintenance, or engineering
* Minimum five (5) years' experience in plant instrumentation and controls
* Valid state driver's license
* Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or mechanical engineering from ABET accredited university is preferred
* Previous leadership in a plant environment and/or formal leadership training is preferred
* Professional Engineer license in State of Minnesota is preferred
* Five (5) years' experience with OSI PI (or similar software) in plant environment is preferred
* Five (5) years' experience with Fiix or similar enterprise CMMS software is preferred
* Completion of formal steam plant operations training, licensure, or certification program is preferred
