We are seeking a highly motivated Data Scientist to support formulation and product development through data-driven innovation. This role will focus on analyzing formulation, laboratory, benchtop, pilot, and process data to generate insights that improve experimentation, ingredient selection, product performance, and decision making across R&D.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in data science, statistics, and machine learning, along with experience working in a scientific, laboratory, product development, or process-oriented environment. This person will partner closely with formulation scientists, R&I teams, and digital stakeholders to transform complex experimental and operational data into practical, actionable insights that accelerate product development and improve formulation outcomes.

Note: This role is hybrid and based in Clark, New Jersey, with onsite collaboration required 3 days per week

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze formulation, laboratory, experimental, benchtop, pilot, and process data to identify patterns, correlations, and optimization opportunities
  • Develop predictive, statistical, and machine learning models to support formulation design, ingredient selection, and product performance evaluation
  • Apply experimental design, DoE, statistical testing, and model-based analysis to improve experimentation strategies and support smarter R&D decisions
  • Design and implement data pipelines, data preparation workflows, and analytical processes to structure, clean, and prepare lab and formulation datasets for analysis
  • Create interactive dashboards, visualizations, and reporting tools that communicate insights clearly to both scientific and business stakeholders
  • Partner with formulation scientists, product development teams, R&I teams, and digital stakeholders to translate scientific and product challenges into practical data solutions
  • Support the development of digital tools and analytics capabilities that improve the speed, consistency, and quality of formulation and product development decisions
  • Document methodologies, models, assumptions, and workflows to support reproducibility, knowledge sharing, and long-term scalability
  • Help identify opportunities to improve how formulation and R&D data are captured, organized, and used across teams

Qualifications

  • Experience in cosmetics, beauty, consumer goods, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, materials science, or related R&D environments
  • Familiarity with formulation science, product development, ingredient systems, process optimization, or experimental design
  • Experience with DoE, multivariate analysis, hypothesis testing, or other structured experimentation methods
  • Experience with LIMS, ELN, digital lab platforms, or R&D data environments
  • Experience applying AI-assisted analytics, advanced modeling, or digital decision-support tools to scientific datasets
  • Experience supporting scientists, formulation teams, product developers, or lab-based stakeholders
  • Exposure to stability, compatibility, sensory, manufacturing, or scale-up data is a plus

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in cosmetics, beauty, consumer goods, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, or materials science.
  • Familiarity with formulation science, product development, experimental design, or DoE.
  • Experience with LIMS, digital lab platforms, or R&D data environments.
  • Experience applying AI-assisted analytics or advanced modeling techniques to scientific datasets.

Work Environment

This role is based in Clark, NJ and requires onsite collaboration 3 days per week. The position partners closely with formulation scientists and cross-functional R&D teams, so candidates should be comfortable working in a collaborative, hybrid environment that blends science, analytics, and product development.
