Language access is a core component of Fairfax County's commitment to advancing racial and social equity. Under the direction of the Language Access Program Manager, this position is responsible for coordinating, assigning, and ensuring the effective delivery of interpretation and translation services in multiple languages for Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court (JDRDC) units and their partners. The role processes all language service requests in a timely and accurate manner and monitors daily utilization of vendors and volunteer services to inform budget allocation and resource planning. It also serves as a backup Spanish interpreter for urgent or last-minute cases.

This position provides comprehensive management of the VIP-Volunteer Interpreter Program, including oversight of volunteer recruitment, outreach, training, and coaching. It functions as backup support to the Management Analyst I, troubleshoots operational issues that arise on a daily basis, and prepares reports, presentations, and other materials as assigned. The coordinator oversees quality assurance and manages workflow to ensure agency-wide compliance with Title VI Limited English Proficiency (LEP) requirements. Responsibilities include developing, recommending, and implementing plans and initiatives to improve performance, quality, compliance, and operational efficiency. The position also supports a range of administrative and professional functions-such as procurement and contract administration, human resources-related activities, information technology projects, and other related duties-as needed. Overall, this role is integral to ensuring that services are accessible, equitable, and effectively delivered to Fairfax County's diverse community.

The assigned functional areas of this position are language translation and interpretation, program coordination, project management and public administration.

Fairfax County is home to a highly diverse population, with a significant number of residents speaking languages other than English at home - including Spanish, Asian/Pacific Islander, Indo-European, and many others. We encourage candidates who are bilingual in English and another language to apply for this opportunity. A foreign language skills stipend of up to $1560/year (full-time) may be given for qualified bi-lingual employees.
