The Patient Access Supervisor, supervises Emergency Services daily operations of all staff functions. The position provides and maintains a normal level of departmental functions in conjunction with the Operations Manager of the Admissions Department. Work requires internal contacts outside the work group to resolve mutual problems and to collaborate on work procedures to ensure satisfaction with services. Communication with external contact involves providing or obtaining factual information. The job duties affect direct patient care through the completion of tasks, which allow others to provide direct care.

Minimum Education and Experience:



  • A Bachelors degree with three years experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Prior supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Experience in a managed care environment and familiarity with insurance/pre-certification regulations and requirements is required.



Essential Functions:




  • Operations: Assure 24 hour-a-day, 7 day-a-week operations of Emergency Registration and Bed Control are without major incidents. Department operates within reasonable variance to staffing budget. Personnel actions are handled with minimal delays. Actively participates in registration/bed control functions as a working supervisor filling in for staff members when necessary.
  • Productivity and Performance: Works with the Manager to align organization by providing clear direction; defines roles, priorities, and desire outcomes; establishes standards of performance for employees. Holds staff accountable for actions and results. Rewards and recognizes employees for performance using accepted rewards practices
  • Quality Control: Performs daily quality control checks to ensure accuracy of registration process across staff members. Receives feedback from external customers and acts quickly to correct errors in registration and bed control.
  • New Employee Training: Assist the department manager in providing all new staff members with adequate training on the registration processes, Epic usage, MSP Regulations and any other Department specific procedures.
  • Continuous Training: Contributes to the on-going training of staff members regarding changes to the registration processes, changes to insurance selection, as well as any other training issues that may arise.
  • Customer Service: Ensures a high level of customer service is provided in the Emergency and Bed Control areas. Leads by example and demonstrates high level customer service to staff members.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Maintains consistent and compliant practices to ensure compliance with regulations and main



Other Duties & Responsibilities:

Human Resource Management



  • Facilitates initiatives within the department/division to recruit and retain staff.
  • Assist with ongoing performance feedback and development opportunities to staff.
  • Assist the department manager in providing complete introductory and annual evaluations on time.
  • Utilizes the Human Resources Department for recruitment, retention, employee relations and employee development activities as needed.



Financial Management



  • Supervises department/division volumes, expenses to ensure adherence to departmental budget.



Planning & Quality Management



  • Assist in monitoring implementation of annual department/division goals that support the core strategies and objectives.
  • Ensures full department/division compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Identifies and implements opportunities for process improvements. Evaluates and modifies department/division processes using FOCUS PDCA.

Salary Range: Minimum 22.65/hour - Maximum 39.65/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.
