Senior Research Engineer / Scientist

PeopleTec is currently seeking a Senior Research Engineer / Scientist to support our Huntsville, AL location.

This is a full-time, permanent position for individuals with a strong technical background in engineering, physics, or related STEM fields, combined with a passion for technical writing and scientific communication. The ideal candidate will have experience conducting research, preparing technical documentation, and contributing to peer-reviewed publications, with proficiency in LaTeX for creating high-quality, publication-ready materials.

In this role, you will contribute to research and development (R&D) projects while also serving as a key resource for documenting and communicating technical findings. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to design experiments, analyze data, and prepare reports, ensuring that all written materials meet the highest standards of clarity, accuracy, and rigor. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys combining hands-on technical work with writing and communication.

Duties:

Conduct research and development activities, including experiment design, data analysis, and hypothesis testing.
• Prepare and edit scientific and technical documents, including research papers, technical reports, and customer deliverables.
• Use LaTeX to create professional, publication-ready materials, including equations, figures, and tables.
• Collaborate with engineers and scientists to document research findings and ensure technical rigor in all written materials.
• Contribute to the preparation of peer-reviewed journal articles, conference papers, and other academic publications.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, such as experimental procedures, project summaries, and user manuals.
• Participate in project meetings to understand technical goals and translate them into clear, actionable documentation.
• Support proposal development by contributing to technical sections and ensuring alignment with customer requirements.

Required Skills/Experience:

• 3+ years (1+ with Ph.D.) of experience in a research or technical role, with a focus on both hands-on technical work and technical writing.
• Strong background in engineering, physics, or a related STEM field, with experience in areas such as experiment design, data analysis, or computational modeling.
• Demonstrated expertise in preparing scientific and academic papers, including experience with peer-reviewed publications.
• Proficiency in LaTeX for creating professional, publication-quality documents.
• Familiarity with tools such as MATLAB, Python, or other software commonly used in STEM fields for data analysis and modeling.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and concisely.
• Experience developing technical documentation, such as user manuals, experimental procedures, or project reports.
• Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and adapt writing to different audiences, including technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Travel: 10 %
• Must be a U.S. Citizen
• Candidates are required to have an active Secret clearance upon hire, and the ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance.

Education Requirements:

• Master's degree or Ph.D. in Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or a related STEM field is required.
