What You Will Do:
  • Provide federal tax controversy services to firm clients as part of a growing Tax Controversy and Procedure practice
  • Work on a wide variety of tax controversy matters and take the lead on gathering and documenting facts, researching and analyzing complex tax issues and IRS procedures, and drafting various types of written correspondence (e.g., letters, tax memos, file documentation)
  • Advise and assist clients with IRS notices, IRS account issues, penalty abatement requests, entity classification election issues, requests for TAS assistance, and other IRS practice and procedure matters
  • Assist with IRS audits and administrative appeals, including preparing IDR/NOPA responses, protests, and other written correspondence
  • Manage communications with clients and engagement team members
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Taxation, or a related field
  • 2+ years of experience in public accounting, or specialized expertise in federal interest computation and/or complex, multi-year federal tax calculations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Accounting, Taxation, or a related field
  • Current and valid CPA, EA, JD, or LLM credential
  • Understanding of interest rules, regulations, revenue procedures, and IRS guidelines, with the ability to research and analyze complex scenarios.
  • Proficiency with DMI (Decision Modeling, Inc.) Interest and Penalty software or similar interest-netting tools.

Illinois Wage Transparency
Pursuant to Illinois' Equal Pay Act, the salary range displayed is for the Illinois market. The salary for this role will be based on the experience, education, and skill set of the individual for the position. Non-exempt/hourly positions will be eligible for time and half pay for employees that work over 40 hours in a workweek. Benefits are eligibility-based and could include group health plan benefits, 401(K), bonuses, profit-sharing contributions, flexible time off, and parental leave.
