Position Summary/Essential Functions:

The Quality Engineer 2 is responsible for technical support to the Quality Assurance Department. The position requires a technical background sufficient to assist in procedure development, identifying root cause of the problem, and to provide joint technical interface between Engineering and Manufacturing.

Responsibilities:

* Statistical techniques, i.e., failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), reliability failure analysis, design of experiments, statistical decision making, and statistical process control (SPC) and Six Sigma implementation.
* Knowledge of military and commercial specifications for materials, pumps/compressors, protective finishing, heat treating, and non-destructive testing.
* ASME Y14.5M (dimensioning and tolerancing), ANSI/ASQC Z1.4 (sampling procedures and tables for inspection by attributes), MIL-STD- 100 (engineering drawing practices), ANSI/NCSL Z540-3 (calibration systems requirements), FED-STD-H28 (screw thread standards).
* IPC-A-610 (Acceptability Of Electronic ASSY) and J-STD-001 (Joint Industry Standard for Soldering)
* Supporting interface/assistance to the Contracts and Purchasing departments.
* AS9100 Quality Management System Requirements.
* Support new business development with customer quality requirements compliance review, proposal writing support and generating quality assurance program plans.

* Implementation and management of Zero Defect methodologies, Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), and other principles for various customer programs.
* Interpret and implement customer contractual requirements for quality planning, inspection and source inspection and flow down. Support additional, customer requirements including preparation and interface for surveys, readiness reviews, first article inspections and audits.
* Participate in and/or coordinate material review board (MRB) activities to issue, track and close corrective actions, respond to customer requests for corrective action and generate failure and investigation reports.
* Support and provide assistance to Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering in drawing development and drawing revisions for productivity, detailed work instructions, process approval and to offset cause of deviations from quality standards.
* Support additional customer requirements including preparation and interface for surveys, readiness reviews, review and approve AS9102 first article inspections, analyzes audit results and determines proper corrective and preventive action. Knowledge of
Net-Inspect & Visual FAIR software.
* Must have a valid driver's license.
* Must be able to work with minimum supervision

* Light housekeeping in inspection department, keeping inspection equipment and work stations clean.
* Performing such duties as filing and copying.
* Maintain inspection files, move non-active files to storage and purge and destroy obsolete files.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university, or equivalent; and 5+ years' experience as a Quality Engineer or in related position. Quality, Engineering or Technical degree preferred. ASQ Quality Engineer certification or experienced manufacturing engineer is a plus.
  • Experience in maintaining an AS9100 Quality Management System and must have a background in Quality Assurance and Manufacturing processes. Also requires a working knowledge of military and commercial specifications for materials, protective finishing, heat treating, and non-destructive testing and experience in Military Aerospace Industry required.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to communicate in English.
  • Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from customers and suppliers and to effectively present information to top management.
  • Must be able to adequately communicate with coworkers. Good written and verbal communication skills in English are required.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret simple technical periodicals and scientific articles. Ability to effectively present information to management, vendors and other functions within and outside the Company.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to complete tasks in a timely manner and pay close attention to detail and produce high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to prioritize his/her own work if applicable, and complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Must be able to work independently and exercise discretion.

  • IBM PC, Microsoft Office for Word, Excel (spreadsheets) and Power Point (presentations).
  • CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine), Hardness tester, Optical comparator, Profilometer, Sine plate, calipers and micrometers, Height gages, Gage blocks, Precision measuring pins, Gear wires, Spline and thread gages, Scientific calculator, Dial indicators, Multi meter, Company van and Pallet jack.

Position involves ability to frequently or constantly exert up to 20 pounds of force and occasionally exert up to 50 pounds of force to move or lift objects.

  • Must be a US citizen. Must be eligible to obtain a DoD Security Clearance, if needed.

Please note that the salary range information is only applicable for California, New York, Washington. Compensation is based on a variety of factors, candidate experience, qualifications, location as well as market and business considerations.

The wage range for this role considers allowances for a number of factors, including but not limited to required experience, skill level, prior training, licensure/certifications, education, and other business needs. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $83,250.00 - $138,550.00.
