JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

VAST Summer Art Studio Workshop Instructor - Digital Media/Graphic Design

Location: Penn State Altoona

Program: VAST Summer Art Studio

Camp Dates: July 13 - 17, 2026

Digital Media Workshop Dates: July 14, 16, and 17th, 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Total Sessions: 3, 3-hr sessions (plus session on first day)

Compensation: $200/session, $700 total

Position Overview

The Visual Art Studies (VAST) program seeks a Digital Media/Graphic Design professional to lead a three-session workshop within the VAST Summer Art Studio, a 5-day studio art camp for high school students.

While the camp runs Monday through Friday, this position is responsible only for three afternoon digital media sessions.

Students will complete a focused logo design project, learning foundational design principles and culminating in vinyl cutting and heat press production.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver three structured 3-hour workshop sessions
  • Introduce foundational graphic design concepts (vector graphics, typography, layout)
  • Guide students in Adobe Illustrator
  • Prepare files for vinyl cutting and heat press application
  • Provide individual feedback and maintain a safe, organized digital workspace

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Digital Media, Studio Art, or related field
  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator
  • Teaching or workshop experience
  • Experience working with high school students

BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES

This position requires the following clearances in addition to applicable background checks: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check.
