Summary

Responsible for providing overall supervision and leadership for the 911 Communications staff to ensure quality performance of general functions within the Emergency Communications Center.

Salary: Depending on qualifications and experience

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Monitor and evaluate emergency call response and dispatch activities to correct deficiencies and maintain adherence to policies/procedures of the assigned personnel.

  • Coordinate activities by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, and directing the work of the staff.

  • Conduct quality assurance reviews of emergency calls in accordance with established directives and guidelines.

  • Plan and coordinate in-service and on-the-job training to improve the overall performance of the staff.

  • Identify and resolve telephone and computer system malfunctions as they may arise.

  • Perform duties of a Public Safety Dispatcher as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.)

  • 2 years related experience

  • 1 year experience in a leadership role

  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Qualifications

Education/ Experience:

  • 6 months advanced training or coursework past the high school level

  • 2-4 years experience as a Public Safety Dispatcher

  • 1 year experience in a leadership role in a communication or dispatch center

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • General knowledge of telecommunications equipment operation and functions

  • Considerable knowledge of each section of a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system (911, fire dispatch, police dispatch)

  • Considerable knowledge of law enforcement practices and situations Skill in coordinating mental, manual and visual activities simultaneously

  • Skill in projecting authority and interacting in harmony with other employees in a confined environment

  • Skill in recording and organizing data from a variety of sources at the same time

  • Skill in the use of a wide variety of computer applications including Microsoft Office Skill in interpreting and appropriate application of statutes, ordinances, codes, and policies

  • Skill in responding to and applying established procedures and policies for emergency situations and directing the work of others in emergency conditions

  • Ability to multitask and demonstrate appropriate judgment on the spot

  • Ability to work under pressure and during emergency situations and react quickly to signals, unexpected situations and/or emergencies

  • Ability to provide leadership and motivation and hold team accountable for actions

Licenses and Certifications

  • Basic Telecommunicator Proficiency-TCLEOSE (Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education) required

  • Medical Priority Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) license and certification required

  • Texas Department of Safety (DPS) National Crime Information Center (NCIC)/ Texas Crime Information Center (TCIC) certification

  • Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (TLETS) Operator certification required CPR Certification
