Overview

Framed within the mission, vision, and values of the Carle Health Peoria EMS System, the EMS System Educator is responsible for developing and facilitating clinical and didactic education for EMS students and EMS Providers. Educational offerings will be developed in collaboration with the EMS Medical Director, Regional EMS Manager, the EMS System Coordinator, and Illinois Central College (ICC). Additionally, continuing education program coordination with system agencies is required. This position is responsible for clinical quality review and quality improvement. The EMS Educator will also serve in support capacity within the comprehensive Emergency Management program.
Qualifications

  • Licensed Paramedic - Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) OR Pre-Hospital Registered Nurse (PHRN) - Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH)

  • Certified Critical Care Paramedic (CCP-C) - International Board of Specialty Certification (IBSC), required within 3 years preferred

  • ICS-800: National Incident Management System (NIMS) - FEMA, required within 6 months

  • ICS-700: National Incident Management System (NIMS) - FEMA, required within 6 months

  • ICS-200: National Incident Management System (NIMS) - FEMA, required within 3 months

  • ICS-100: National Incident Management System (NIMS) - FEMA, required within 3 months

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Instructor - American Heart Association (AHA), required within 6 months

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Instructor - American Heart Association (AHA), required within 6 months

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Instructor - American Heart Association (AHA), required within 6 months

  • EMS Lead Instructor Certification - Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), required within 1 year

Work Experience:

  • Training and development

  • Report development

  • Basic computer skills

  • EMS education

  • Busy 911 system experience

  • ALS experience


Responsibilities

  • Coordinates EMS System continuing education programs to meet or exceed national standards

  • Collaborates with the EMS Medical Director, Regional EMS Manager, and EMS Coordinator to identify and prioritize learning needs

  • Assists ICC with initial education for all EMS provider levels and FTI training as requested

  • Becomes familiar with all instructional equipment, including simulation mannequin functions

  • Works as an active team member to host NREMT refresher courses

  • Assists in preparing state testing rosters and initial licensure paperwork

  • Reviews site code submissions for each agency and prepares documentation for state submission

  • Maintains community relations through meetings, presentations, and courses

  • Provides or remediates education for EMS students and system personnel in clinical or didactic areas as requested

  • Conducts periodic collaborative visits to EMS System agencies

  • Continuously assesses educational needs of the EMS System and ICC

  • Participates in performance standard updates as needed

  • Assists the EMS Coordinator with annual protocol testing and skills evaluations

  • Maintains departmental and student confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, FERPA, state regulations, and employee handbook

  • Conducts EMS clinical quality reviews

  • Maintains clinical competency and professional development per departmental policies

  • Serves as the primary lead for EMS education and identifies clinical trends requiring educational intervention

  • Participates in emergency management activities including mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery

  • Acts as a liaison between the EMS System, Illinois Central College, and IDPH EMS

  • Maintains flexibility to meet the educational needs of night and weekend shift employees

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation range for this position is $27.84per hour - $46.49per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
