Job Summary

The Project Manager Senior is a key leader within the Enterprise Performance Office at Maricopa Community Colleges, overseeing high-impact projects from start to finish. This role is responsible for managing all phases of the project lifecycle, including initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, and closeout, while ensuring alignment with organizational goals and priorities.

The Project Manager Senior position partners closely with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to drive progress, mitigate risks, and deliver results on time and within scope. Responsibilities include developing and maintaining comprehensive project documentation, providing clear and timely status updates, and preparing reports and presentations for leadership.

Essential Functions

45% - Leads, coordinates, and/or provides support to complex, oftentimes system-wide, politically sensitive projects:
  • Serves as the designated subject matter expert for projects' status, progression, and challenges
  • Manages cross-functional project teams
  • Facilitates the development of the project scope with the project sponsor(s) and stakeholders
  • Identifies and facilitates the development of project objectives, milestones, schedule, and overall project plan
  • Develops and delivers communications, materials, training, and presentations
  • Interacts with key stakeholders and keeps them informed on project progress
  • Facilitates meetings with project sponsors and key stakeholders

25% - Monitors, tracks, and reports on project deliverables:
  • Creates and maintains comprehensive project documentation and provides project status updates
  • Composes, reviews, and finalizes original comprehensive reports and documents
  • Addresses project issues and risk scenarios
  • Provides recommended solutions to mitigate risk; tracks lessons learned

15% Utilizes change management techniques to ensure successful adoption of project outcomes and/or other system-wide initiatives:
  • Recommend and execute strategies for communicating, socializing, and managing organizational change.

10% - Develops and monitors project budgets and related expenditures:
  • Ensures projects are accomplished in accordance with established specifications and funding requirements
  • Establishes and maintains working relationships with vendors, contractors, and procurement and fiscal departments as needed.

5% -Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in education, business, program management, or public administration, and four (4) years of project management coordination and experience.

OR

An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience, as described above, sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job, such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.

Desired Qualifications
  1. An active professional project management certification (PMP, CAPM, etc.) in good standing
  2. Three years of experience leading end-to-end delivery of complex, cross-functional projects, evidenced by projects involving at least two of the following factors: multiple functional areas, vendor coordination, systems/process integration, regulatory/compliance constraints, significant change management, or a high dependency/risk environment
  3. Demonstrated success leading decision-making across broad stakeholder groups by eliciting input from Subject Matter Experts (SME) and driving alignment when you are not the primary domain expert
  4. Three years of experience working in higher education, preferably within a community college system
  5. Demonstrated ability to produce clear, concise, and professional written communication. Cover letter and resume will be included in the assessment of this qualification
  6. One year of experience applying structured changemanagement techniques within projects
  7. One year of full-time relevant MCCCD experience during the previous two years


Special Working Conditions

MCCCD does not sponsor individuals for any type of work visas

May be required to work at multiple sites or locations

May be required to sit for a prolonged period of time, viewing a computer monitor

Working Hours:
  • Work hours during fall/spring are 8 hours, between 7 am and 5 pm, Monday - Friday
  • Work hours during summer are 10 hours, between 7 am and 7 pm, Monday - Thursday
