Sr. Production Technician

Job Summary:

The Senior Production Technician is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of an industrial gases facility in La Porte, Texas. This is a challenging and rewarding job that requires the employee to have problem-solving capabilities in mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and production processes. Senior Technicians have primary responsibility for all units on-site. They will work independently as well as with a team while demonstrating initiative and self-motivation. The Senior Technician is also expected to lead their shift group and provide training and mentorship to other technicians.

Scope:

Employees in this role operate all aspects of the Linde industrial gases plant, from routine operations to solving production problems. They maintain compressors, pumps, valves, motors and related equipment. The technicians also start up, shut down, and operate the plant.

The technician must solve a variety of mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and process control problems. The technician makes decisions which require coordination of interrelated tasks. The employee develops conceptual solutions to moderately difficult, non-routine issues/problems and provides guidance on technical leadership of projects.

Senior Technicians provide training to other operators to help develop knowledge and skills. They are also supported with supervision, lead technicians, engineers, safety, and other technical staff. Occasionally, the technician will travel to locations outside the assigned areas to support those plants and receive training.

Principal Accountabilities:

• Maintain all Safety, Quality, Environmental, and Compliance activities

• Start up, shut down, and operate the production processes.

• Planning and executing operations and maintenance tasks (e.g. lockout-tagout)

• Documentation, reports, and other administrative duties

• Follow SOPs/SMPs for highly regulated plant processes and procedures

• Perform routine maintenance and calibrations on a variety of process equipment such as compressors, gas analyzers, control systems, electrical systems, rotating equipment, and process control valves.

• Troubleshoot and repair defective equipment, electrical components, and production processes.

• Purchasing of materials and/or services such as contractors.

• Operating equipment including forklifts and man-lifts.

• Ensure gas and liquid trailers are loaded in a timely manner.

Qualifications:

• Education

• High School Degree required

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a technical field preferred

Experience:

3 - 7 years of experience is highly desirable in many of the following fields:

• Air separation, oil refining, or similar complex process control operations

• Instrumentation and control

• General maintenance of industrial equipment

• Compressors and compressor maintenance

• Industrial mechanical maintenance

• Industrial electrical or electrician

• Industrial Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning (HVAC)

• Military technical fields

• Machinist Mates, Electrician Mates, Nuclear Technician, Gas Turbine Technicians, Boiler Technicians, Cryogenic Technicians.

Skills and Attributes:

• Safety commitment and compliance with procedures

• Communications, both verbal and written

• Competency with computers, Microsoft applications (specifically Word and Excel), email, and process control computer systems

• Process understanding, process control schematic interpretation

• Trouble shooting and diagnostics

Working Conditions:

The Senior Technician must be able to sit, stand, climb, walk, read, talk, see and hear, to perform the essential functions of this job. Additional activities for this job are:

• Drive a service (pickup) truck up to 2 or 3 hours per day and up to 8 hours on occasion.

• Sit at control board (computer) for extended periods of time

• Walking on flat or uneven surfaces and in areas of crushed stone on a daily basis.

• Bending, stooping, and working from just above the ground to 6 foot elevation.

• Use of stairs, ladders, and scaffolding for elevated work.

• Lifting 5 to 15 lbs. loads performed daily.

• Lifting 15 to 45 lbs. loads intermittently.

• Lifting 45 to 75 lbs. loads occasionally.

• Use of air purifying full face respirator occasionally.

• Upper body work activities, including using wrenches, hammers, and similar hand tools.

• Use of power tools such as drill and saws.

• Use of volt meters and calibration devices.

• Use of fingers/fine manipulation (such as instrumentation calibration).

• Use of chemical personal protective equipment (PPE).

• Shift schedule requiring weekend and/or nighttime shifts. Working extended hours and/or holidays may be required.

• On Call, 24 hours, 7 days a week. Must carry Company Cell phone.
