Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
WUNC Radio provides quality news, information and entertainment programming to a broad listening audience that includes North Carolina, the United States and the world. WUNC serves North Carolinians from Greensboro to the Outer Banks through a network of ten stations.
Position Summary
The Listener Services Specialist position is multifaceted and requires a blend of solid administrative and customer service skills to effectively manage WUNC's main phone line. As the front line communicator, this role requires a professional demeanor while interacting with WUNC listeners, donors, guests, visitors, vendors and staff. Phone calls, emails, mail and in-person guests and visitors are station specific and require the position to effectively control the tone of communications moving forward in all aspects of contact. The incumbent must be knowledgeable regarding the areas of donor related topics, programming, fundraising, organizational composition, and station events. It is of the utmost importance to safeguard the confidentiality of departmental or office administration by exercising discretion in dispensing information to listeners, donors, guests and staff.

This position is responsible for providing a variety of services such as responding to inquiries; investigating gift issues; resolving donor concerns; maintaining and ensuring the data integrity and security of two databases; maintaining donor communications; participating in long-range planning; preparing required reports; planning and carrying out special projects which require analysis, evaluation, and interpretation; coordinating the daily office workflow; providing administrative support as needed; representing supervisor in delegated duties or routine matters; providing ongoing office equipment support; communicating policies or procedures to staff; providing input into planning and policy development; and working jointly with Development department to advance the station's fundraising and development strategies. The incumbent must be motivated, organized and take initiatives to independently complete work in a thorough and precise manner with accuracy, speed and efficiency. Work requires considerable analytical skill and the ability to plan and coordinate tasks to completion.

The Listener Services Specialist plays a pivotal role in the station as he/she must effectively communicate and collaborate across all facets of the organization and is highly responsive to the listeners in its daily operations management. These factors ultimately contribute to a consistent and quality listening experience for WUNC audience members as this position is instrumental in connecting critical components which establish favorable programming in news, cultural and entertainment contents. WUNC operates across half of North Carolina's 100 counties, and this position serves a vital role in listener and donor relations.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency and one year of related office experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Management Preferences
* Being an attentive listener is highly preferred as this position must be knowledgeable about WUNC's on-air programming and be able to respond to donor inquiries and questions regarding historical and current broadcasts.
* Possess the ability to maintain awareness and control while expressing emotions appropriately, maturely and thoughtfully during verbal and written interactions with donors, listeners, guests, on-site visitors, vendors and staff.
* Possess knowledge in the areas of nonprofit fundraising, gift processing, data management with individual and mass record updates and building and running queries and reports.
* Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook), search engines, and social media platforms
* Possess the ability to function independently with minimum or no direct supervision in performing tasks.
