Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent

Full-time working experience with a Division I intercollegiate equipment program, specifically football.
Position Summary
The Assistant Director of Football Equipment oversees the comprehensive management, safety, and operational readiness of all football equipment and apparel. This role ensures compliance with governing body regulations ( NCAA and SEC), supports athlete performance and safety, manages significant inventory assets, and coordinates logistics for practices, games, and team travel.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

  • Experience in athletics equipment management, preferably at the NCAA Division 1-A level.
  • Ability to work effectively with coaches, administrators, student-athletes, and vendors.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only a limited standardization exists.

Physical Demands

  • The employee will regularly stand, walk, use hands, reach with arms, and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • The noise level during practice and sporting events can reach a high decibel level.
  • Specific vision abilities include close and distance vision, and peripheral vision.
  • Driving as needed to perform job duties.

  • Management of football practice operations throughout daily practices, all while directly supporting the head football coach during practices, walk-thrus, scrimmages, and other on-field activities.
  • Supervise daily team events with emphasis on student manager guidance, field preparation, equipment set-up, and practice organization.

  • Assist, oversee, and manage all day-to-day aspects of the football equipment room and equipment operations related to team practices and games in collaboration with the Director of Football Equipment.
  • Effectively manage a staff of 16 student equipment managers, supervising daily equipment room tasks. Recruit, train, and supervise student managers.
  • Develop workflow systems to improve efficiencies and accountabilities.

  • Liaison to multiple internal departments, including Football Operations, Player Development, Player Personnel, Sports Medicine, Strength and Conditioning, Nutrition, Facilities, Grounds, Marketing and Promotions, Sports Communication, Event Management, and NIL support.

  • Conduct the purchasing, issuance, and storage of all athletic equipment, footwear, and apparel. Maintain inventory and organize the distribution of apparel for all student-athletes, coaches, and support staff within the football department.
  • Serve as a liaison for equipment vendors and apparel partners.
  • Execute annual Nike apparel orders totaling $1M annually - apparel, footwear, gameday uniforms.

  • Must be able to properly fit student athletes according to guidelines and procedures - helmets, shoulder pads, cleats.
  • Knowledge of 3D scanning technologies regarding proper fitting.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections to minimize risk and support athlete readiness.
