Position Overview

The Control Room Operator Trainee participates in a structured training program, typically lasting twelve (12) to eighteen (18) months, to develop the skills required to operate cement plant control systems safely and effectively. Under supervision, this role learns to oversee and control plant operations using centralized computer systems, monitor equipment performance, document operational data, and communicate with plant personnel to support safe, efficient, and compliant cement manufacturing operations.

What You'll Do

• Train to operate cement plant systems from a central control room, including crushing, grinding, kiln, cooler, fuel, and material transport systems.
• Monitor plant operations and learn to adjust control system set points to support safe and effective production.
• Observe, record, and document operational data including production rates, inventory levels, fuel usage, and laboratory results.
• Maintain accurate logs and records related to kiln, milling, and overall plant operations.
• Coordinate with Shift Foremen, laboratory personnel, system operators, mechanics, electricians, and mobile equipment operators.
• Learn and comply with all company, plant safety policies, and MSHA regulations, using proper PPE and safe work practices.
• Identify and immediately report unsafe conditions, abnormal operating conditions, or equipment issues to supervision.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly control room and work environment.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by Leads, Foremen, Supervisors, or Management to support training and plant operations.

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of one (1) year of prior experience as a cement plant control room operator or control room trainee, or equivalent experience required.
• Minimum of five (5) years of prior experience working in a cement plant required.

Other Qualifications

• Ability to work rotating shifts covering 24 hours per day, seven (7) days per week required.
• Ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, days, and nights as operational needs require.
• Ability to work independently while progressing through a structured training program.
• Ability to work in physically demanding and sometimes stressful industrial environments.
• Commitment to working safely and adhering to all company, plant, and MSHA safety policies.
